Best supporting actor nomination for Giovanni Ribisi (Moburg)

Anyone agree?

Every character in this movie was portrayed very well, but Ribisi's Moberg was classic. His dialogue took over scenes. I thought the actors played all the book's characters brilliantly, it was the script adaptation ripping out the book's guts and attempt at theming the film to coincide with current zeitgeist's (anti-corp., anti-banking) that made this movie mediocre.

He was acting with a capital 'A' -- phony drunk sitcom acting. He basically played the same role and did a better job in Middle Men.

reply

He truly had characterization and projection in this movie! One extra said the truth!

reply

His character was bizarre and unbelievable, and his acting did nothing to make the character more believable. Are we supposed to find a drunk, insane Nazi cute?

reply

Cute? No. Compelling? Yes. His big monologue, which Bruce Robinson wisely filmed in one long shot, was easily the best thing in the film. I wish it was in the "Quotes" section here; it really is a great, shocking, funny moment. It would make a prime Oscar clip.

He was terrible. Yes, he was "in character." But so what? He existed in a vacuum that had nothing to do with the other characters and he sparks no interest from the viewing audience. This works as an exercise in an acting class. Fails as something that is useful in a movie.

Ive been a fan of his forever.. he never disappoints. Him and Risipoli are the stars of this Terrible movie.. I lost sight of the story halfway in and was just following those 2 characters till the end. Aaron Eckhart did a good job too in a role that completely suits him..

I'd like to see Depp to a really agonized and tortured character with lots of negative emotion. Im starting to feel he's "happy go lucky" with all of his characters

Obviously you've never seen Sweeney Todd or The Libertine.

I haven't read the book but I didn't get his a nazi. To me it woul'd seam as good as think H.S.T is republican because all the Nixon quotes in Fear And Loathing :)
Best scene in movie to me, was when Moberg didn't have hart to tell over the phone that printing presses had been taken away.

Giovani Ribisi has a limited acting range. Over the top and even more over the top.

reply

He's done some memorable characters in the past, and he was definitely the highlight of the movie here!

According to Wikipedia he's set to star in a 2013 realease of "Waco," playing David Koresh. Seems the film will be directed by Rupert Wainwright from the UK. Wainwright is best known for his 1999 work, “Stigmata” but he's also done a lot of TV movies. Don't we know enough about "Waco"?

Hmm...That should be a trip. Can't find anything on IMDB about it though.

My favorite: "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb"

I agree his performance was awesome!

reply

I don't think Ribisi was that great in this movie. Michael Rispoli's performance was much more memorable.
