Season 4 is Not Veronica Mars - Spoilers

I'm a dedicated fan to Veronica Mars. I was waiting for a Season 4 to happen years ago, but then we got the movie and I thought that's good enough. When I learned about this, I had this excitement, but also this worry, because shows that return aren't always great and maybe even ruined. Heroes Reborn comes to mind.

I'm disappointed with how Veronica is portrayed as a shrew now and many returned characters are underused. Dont get me wrong, there were many great Veronica moments and with her father Keith, but a lot of the times, I was thinking, who are you? I understand she's older and has been through a lot, but she just acts like this person I can barely root for. They should've renamed it, as it's been several years since Season 3 ended and felt like a completely different show. Mars Investigations would've been fine and I know Rob Thomas was going for a "darker show" but it was horribly done imo. Having a head blow up and people decapitated, was like any ordinary day. A lot of things were a joke to Veronica and she acted like she couldn't be bothered with old friends, or even Logan. The set looked like some random street, Neptune High didn't even try to look like the original, and the spring break set looked like a model shooting...it's like they didn't even try with their locations at all. Thomas needs to lay off the FX, AMC, and Showtime.

There was no other jobs/mysteries for Veronica, so we had to sit through pointless subplots and uninteresting new characters with this ridiculous bomb story. The 8 ep mystery of the bombs was a very dull mystery and you can see it was the pizza guy, Penn from the beginning. Does Rob Thomas have a thing for "dorks" or guys who have a low self esteem, because those are always the killers. It's like he tries so hard to hide who the killer is, you can see it from the get go. Sorry Thomas. No creativity here apparently. It would've been fine if it was Don, because you didn't see him all the time.

Many characters who returned seemed pointless at times, because you never saw them again, or their appearance added nothing to the show. New characters like Nicole or Matty had something there, but then they were just there to fill in for characters, who couldn't return, or fill in the void for the returning characters that barely had anything to do, like Wallace or Weevil. Then there's Logan, who gets a really great fight scene and then he's underused again. Most of his story was his rocky relationship with Veronica, wtf was that? And then they kill him off. I don't think Rob really liked Logan from the beginning as his character was never intended to be with Veronica.

I just don't know what this was, it certainly wasn't Veronica Mars imo. If any of you enjoyed it, I guess it's easier for you to sit back and enjoy with what you get - is what you get.

I wouldn't say that I disliked it as much as you did. You are correct that it didn't feel like the first 3 seasons, but I also didn't think that the movie felt like the series either.

I thought the Veronica character kinda worked as someone who was gifted, had opportunities, and then wasted them. She is bitter and hardened, and that made sense to me.

I didn't like what they did with the old supporting cast, and although I've never liked Logan, and I do understand why they did what they did, I can't say I liked it either.

My thoughts were that they were having a bit of a transition season for if they decide to have any more seasons. They wanted a more grown up show, and it was a way to break it away from young student Veronica to real world adult.

In a way I hope they do another season. I would like to see where they take it, especially if it's only 8 episodes.

Indeed

I feel like the show doesn't suit an "adult" setting. Due to that it's darker than the high school and college based seasons.
