Guilty (But I love "Battle Cry").

"We are just too pretty for God to let us die." ~Mal Reynolds, "Firefly".

Intriguing. Is that the only track you like from SC?

This ain't Rap, ist Hip Hop. Rap is a vocal style used in Hip Hop.
But for the question, I like some Hip Hop, but not the gangstah, bling bling uninspired pointless crap. And the anmie? That's, what I call good music.

I love how the person who stared this post used " y'all " and there isn't much of this "rap" you speak of in this show, it mostly hip-hop. (the good kind)

reply

i like rap, but this is hip hop b-boy stuff which is beatboxing and breakdancing. An i hope you guys dont judge rap from the garbage on the radio or on mtv/bet.Dont just listen to 50 cent and people who need a dance in the song to make a hit.

yeah, can't stand rap. love hip hop.

you need to know the difference before you complain though.

but i can't see how you bring up the subject.

the shows utterly awesome hip-hop soundtrack makes it rock.

all hip hop is like that too.

rap, just incase you didn't know is people speaking in a micraphone, just talking about their crappy life and saying it could be better but in some crazy offensive way that doesn't sound positive at all.

hip hop is like this show, the beasty boys or anything that is basically lyrically positive with a smooth ass tempo and pleasing audio to the emotions.

rap is the yang, hip hop is the ying.

yet that's only if the yang is so poor it just looks negative.

Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre polluted a fine genre, there I've said it, bring on the pain!

I love Champloo and the music is pretty sweet, especially Death Wish.

I love most types of music, as I believe every genre, not every artist has something to offer. I think that most of the non-mainstream rap/hip-hop is absolutely awesome music.
In terms of Asian culture being fused with the hip-hop/rap scene, the thing my mind always snaps to is the Wu-Tang Clan, possibly the greatest assemblage of MC's ever, who were incorporating aspects and refrences to Asian culture and the martial arts as early as the beginning of the 90's. Samurai Champloo does the same thing that the Wu-Tang Clan does, except the medium is visual not audio, and the base of the show is something Asian with something American thrown in, instead of vice-versa. This show's soundtrack is about as rockin' as many of the quality underground stuff stateside, and it's always a treat to watch *and* listen to this show.
And also, 50 Cent and all the mainstream rap of the last 10+ years suck more than an insdustrial vaccum, and a vaccum is what that crap is leaving in the minds of everyone who listens to it (and takes it seriously)!

you one of those heavy metal loving emos who cut themselves for the sudden "rush"?

There is definitely a difference between Hip-Hop and Rap. Us intelligent people listen to things like Wu Tang,MF DOOM,Psyche Origami,Mos Def,Talib Kweli,Common,Dead Prez,Little Brother,Pharoahe Monch,The Roots,Run DMC,Rakim,De La Soul,A Tribe Called Quest,N.E.R.D.,Danger Mouse,Outkast, and things of that nature.

Totally, and not only rap, but the soundtrack too (I hesitate to call it "music:). It is one of the best anime I've ever seen, but it is totally dragged down by that strange non-music soundtrack. All those squeaking-screeching sounds passing for music - yuck. Hurts my ears, and I *mean* it literally. Had to turn the volume down in order to watch this series at all.

Bebop had some strange musical pieces, but never THIS strange.

Might I ask what type of music you listen to?

reply

I'm not a fan of rap like 50 cent and those types of artists, but I do like some hip hop (like Outkast for example) and I definitely like the music in Champloo.
