I really liked this (and just watched the original "Ju-On: The Grudge" and found it was extremely dull). However, I wouldn't say it was scarier than the first movie. The American family stuff seemed a little more typical of horror movies than everything else, the flashbacks about the central ghost felt a bit too similar to the bit in "Ringu" where we learn about Sadako's origins and many of the ghost attacks seemed to involve a ghost simply appearing behind someone with one of those (albeit with some pretty interesting effects employed) taking place outdoors in broad daylight. But yeah, that being said there was plenty in this movie that creeped me out. Great film.
