Wild blue yonder thoughts

I went into this episode really hyped because it was so shrouded in mystery. I had heard we where getting no multi doctor stories so wasn't expecting that but did think something must have been hidden for a reason.

So I'm not sure what I really think. The episode was a bit weird and that was nice. I saw someone on Reddit say it was like a family version of The Thing and when they where running down the main corridor watching their doubles stretch, I did have the Thing in mind.

So it was an interesting episode. Some effects maybe not so great but also I feel like like a general standard episode. Being so shrouded in mystery I kind of expected something. It reminded me of series 11, not a lot of press but not really any surprises.

I also kind of felt the actual doctor and Donna often felt a bit off, like they where playing parody versions of their characters. A lot of saying lines for the sake of it and sometimes possibly a bit wooden and maybe even quiet, or that could be the music being too loud.

However I feel like it was all worth it for the scene at the end with Wilf

Yeah. Some of the FX were a bit off. It's nice to see they're keeping up the tradition of their ambition exceeding their grasp in that regard.

It was fun enough over all. I really don't know why it was shrouded in such mystery though, other than to generate social media speculation, of course.

It seems a lot of people love it rating it 10 out of 10 so I'll probably have to rewatch it at some point.

I dunno, I enjoyed the weird parts of it but it also somehow felt generic. Spaceship standard, edge of the universe etc.

It also felt like a general episode. I mean we know the creatures can mimic so it's surprising they didn't mimic past doctors to tie into the 60th

I wouldn't rate it a 10/10 myself. I did like it though. If last week was an 8 for me, this week was a 7.5.

Just like last week's, it's very RTD... which is why I'm most looking forward to Ncuti Gatwa. I want to see what RTD is going to do to move the show forward after he's done with the 60th celebrations... which so far is very much a celebration of... RTD.

I dunno what to rate it but I'm drawn to 5 out of 10 at the moment just because it felt like a generic mid series filler episode.

I half expected when Tennant picked up the wrong Donna, Gatwa's doctor being the one who picks her up which would have explained the secrecy

Reminded me of Pandorum and specifically this imdb thread and what I wrote in it about it 9years ago!

https://moviechat.org/tt1188729/Pandorum/58c8481eb591530ffd6718fd/Alternate-ending

when it was revealed there were no stars i thought the ship had travelled beyond or to the edge the universe like Event Horizon or the Star Trek TNG episode - 'Where No One Has Gone Before' (or maybe theyd been out there so long the universe has ended and there was nothingness) ....for a minute or so it looked like it was going this way...

then the alien fish swims past and we find out its underwater on Tannis - great twist of course but would an alternate ‘beyond the universe' end have worked?

its not impossible that if ship had travelled for nearly a thousand years at warp speed it would end up in a black hole or whatever and has travelled beyond the universe, beyond the stars....the end of space

itd have been very eerie if the glass had broken and nothing happens - no Vacuum, no getting sucked out - then they look outside and find just endless nothingness...almost like the end of the Truman Show and Interstellar, theyd hit the wall...

I'm pretty sure RTD probably read that too.

All in all a good episode Pandorum meets Event Horizon (including design of the ship) meets The Thing meets Terminator Genisys (the which on are you scene) meets BTTF2 (hoverboard Tardis) meets Alien Covenant (choosing the wrong one ending)
