Can DC make it two winners in a row, with Shazam following Aquaman?

I'm feeling really good about this movie. I always liked Captain Marvel (the real one) ever since I saw the Saturday morning show as a kid. And with Aquaman's success, I really think the DCEU has turned a corner.

Financially? It depends on China, like Aquaman.

Quality-wise, Aquaman was terrible, so...

I'm finally seeing it tonight, so I'll let you know my unvarnished opinion on Aquaman tomorrow. I hope it's as good as advertised. I'm mainly a Marvelhead but would love to see DC movies that are good.

Aquaman just passed $300 million domestically, that's not a small thing.

reply

Domestically it has a much bigger competition than Aquaman, and I think one of the main reasons Aquaman did so good in China was due to its colorfulness and crazy world depicted with Atlantis. Haven't seen anything remotely similar in Shazam!, I think its strong cards are nostalgia and humor, things that don't translate that easily to a completely different culture. Shazam! will be lucky if it gets to 500M WW.

Yeah, I tend to be all on board for any comic book movie. I'm not sure if it's a continued lack of confidence in the DCU, or if this movie itself just isn't appealing to me. Aquaman was fine, but far from great. I actually think Justice league is the worst dcu film so far,but that bar is already very low.

reply

That's the question of the day.

reply

Thank God they got rid of Snyder

reply

I don't plan to see it, because it looks like the real protagonist is a little boy and I don't like children.

reply

Yes.

I think this will do okay for itself. Seems like a family flick. I'd like to see DC do better.

reply

It will probably do Ok but I don't think it will hit Aquaman's level
