Box office running about even with Green Lantern?

They green lit a sequel already? Yes the production budget was about half what Green Lantern was but that seems premature. This movie is not being helped much by the foreign box office (especially in China). Where is this movie likely to end it's box office run world wide? 500 million seems unlikely but I might be missing something.

It is more popular with critics and audiences than GL.

Green Lantern had a reported production budget of $200 Million but that was suspected of being much higher. It also only made $219 Million in it's entire release. GL made only $103 International but if released today would have probably doubled that amount in China alone.

Even with a robust China box office GL wouldn't have secured a sequel as it was just too expensive for such a poor return on investment.

Shazam's not getting a premature sequel by any stretch of the imagination.

GL was a shocking film - the animated movie was leagues better.

Which one:

Green Lantern:First Flight
Green lantern:Emerald Knights

I liked First Flight myself.

reply

Yeah First Flight :).

That's a great point, Green Lantern was a box office AND critical bomb. The international numbers are much better for Shazam. That and having half the budget makes a huge difference. Where do you think Shazam will end up world wide?

reply

Like most I'm not sure of Shazam!'s future box office. My thoughts are that Shazam! will end in the $650 Million range.

reply

Norrinrad...that's a pretty good prediction. There's a good chance it even goes higher than that.

QueenFanUSA I'm not sure how to reflect on your post. Like I said, you've never posted anything positive on a Marvel movie or Disney movie in regards to box-office performance that I am aware of.

Now that you have chimed in on my suggestion of Shazam! probably getting $650 Million or even higher, I'd rather be wrong than to feed into your delusional narrative regarding Disney/Marvel circling the drain and Warner/DC on the ascendency.

Contrary to you I don't want Disney/Marvel to fail nor do I want Warner/DC to fail and I don't pit one against the other like you do. You claim this is entertainment for you but you put no work into your predictions.

If you would do just a little authentic work there would be some value to you in what you hope, wish and dream for, which is an honest and objective critique of Box Office, pro or con for Disney animation or Live action.

Dude, do some work.

How is there a good chance that Shazam!'s box office will go higher than $650 Million? Based on what???? Your feels?? Your gut? Leave that to BubbaTheGut!!

I just can't be that optimistic for Shazam at all.

Personally, I don't see it breaking through the $500million barrier at this point, the box office this weekend is going to be diluted between Missing Link, Hellboy, Shazam, Little, a bit of Dumbo and Captain Marvel, and then in two weeks, its all over as Endgame sucks all of the oxygen out of the room.

Shazam has just about done $200million in its first week, its diminishing returns from this point on.

I'm happy to be proved wrong, but $650million seems just a prediction too far for me.

Neither can I now that I looked up how well Shazam! was or was not doing in China. Any big push for Shazam! was to have come from China for my prediction to have some validity and China looks like it will NOT be Shazam!'s savior. Shazam! might be doing Ant Man money with a ceiling of around $500 Million with China only throwing in roughly only $110 Million. Ant-Man did $105 in China and I at first felt that Shazam! would easily exceed that amount and now I have my doubts.

Avengers:Endgame being two weeks away is more than enough room for Shazam! to max out. After that I expect Shazam! to shed theaters. If I am a theater owner I might just keep Captain Marvel on screens to create more synergy between those properties though for audiences.

Why can't you people just ENJOY A GREAT MOVIE for the sake of it?

Why do you always have to yakyakyak about the fucking Box Office? WHY?

reply

Same reason you can't help but yakyakyak defending them. At least the BO chat isn't loaded with seething and rage.

reply

This movie could have good legs. Most people who see it strongly like it. Should get great word of mouth.

reply

I expect it to at least double Green Lantern's WW box office.
