Why not get a woman with the body type of Serena Williams?

I mean if we are being real here, these are 'amazonian' women? Gal Gadot has like zero muscle on her body. And we are supposed to believe she is this strong woman.

Oh yeah she was chosen for her looks.....tbh she looks like some housewife in LA on her way to her yoga class. Not a superhero.

It's cringe worthy when I see her fighting bad guys in the films and like it's so clear there is no way in hell she is doing that. Zero believe ability. Just like how you play a shitty video game and are like....the physics are so off.

Look at women who are Olympic athletes who actually in a way 'fight' their opponents and you will see they don't have a body like Gal. Hell look at military women. So sick of 'tall white model' being the default female role in these types of movies.

Just like in everything else we need that token slutty girl to get the perv audience in.....sad.

This movie is supped to be partly about female empowerment. Funny how the only females that are empowered just happen to be tall white beautiful models.....how empowering....??? LOL

If this movie had been made several years earlier they would have begged Lucy Lawless to star. She would have fit the role perfectly.

reply

She could definitely pulled it off

reply

I disagree. She wasn't beautiful enough. Lucy Lawless was very good looking, don't get me wrong. But Diana is a literal Greek goddess (or demigoddess at least), who were as idealized for their beauty as much as the male gods were for their ideal physicality. It's entirely appropriate for the character to have, absolutely stunning, perfect 10 good looks, and I'm sorry, but Lawless didn't (Lynda Carter did, back in the day when she played the role on TV -- and she wasn't built like a weightlifter either, BTW).

I also reject the notion that Wonder Woman needs to have massive, weightlifter-like muscles. Her strength is magical in nature, and given that, there's no reason she has to be huge.

And I've been hearing for years, every time someone broached the topic of a Wonder Woman movie, from countless Xena fans, Lucy Lawless, Lucy Lawless, Lucy Lawless, ad infinitum. It's frustrating that some people are so lacking in imagination that once they see someone in a role that person is good in, they imagine that this same individual is the only possible choice in the entire world for a similar type of character.

Damn, you are insecure.

Why do you people keep bringing this subject up, you're basically doing the classic judging a book by its cover.
Gal gadot is actually not just a pretty face she is actually highly skilled in fighting and since she served would be also skilled in weapons. Just because she doesn't look exactly like a male's version of a overly masculine looking comic book drawing, doesn't mean she isn't perfect for the role.

Nearly all female cops on police shows are far too skinny to be believable too, for example, A.J. Cook on Criminal Minds, Grace Park on Hawaii Five-O, they don't even look 120 pounds yet they show them easily beating up criminals who are built like Dwayne Johnson, so unrealistic. In real life, female police officers are built more like Olympic weight lifters.

Dude, I am a police officer on a department with about 750 officers. We have SOME female officers who are very fit and have more muscle than most women because they are into fitness. And we have some who are five foot two and weigh a hundred pounds dripping wet. I work with one every day is average height for a female (about 5'6"), and average weight (about 125lbs). We also have some who are carrying some extra weight they shouldn't be carrying. They come in all sizes and all levels of fitness, just like male officers do.

The idea that ALL female police officers are huge, bulked-up weightlifters is an absurd over-generalization, and is simply not correct.

she stole BVS

Tall, long torso, skinny females are the strongest of females though. Their hourglass figure provides aerodynamics a bulk girl would be unable to attain, thus, agility is much higher. :)

Is it believable if Serena Williams lift up an enemy tank and throw towards the enemyline or smash a car by landing on it???!!!! total "superhero" thing is unrealistic and away far from real world's logics, so its really unnecessary question to ask about. Even if you see through the "Olympus/greek Mythology", you will see the goddesses of the Olympus were not the " olympic-built" as we speak or think. "Magic/god" power are no inherited by body structure its totally a spiritual thing. Even the strongest god Zeus is very tiny built if you compare him with his enemies like Titans/Syclops etcs.

I've read both sides of the arguments. My conclusion is that in a movie, reality doesn't matter. All they need is the right justification.

Superman can lift a car not because of his muscles, but because he is a Kryptonian. And it's established that Kryptonians can lift a car with ease. And no one in Krypton was skinny or fat. Kryptonian was simply the representation of ideal men. People bought that reasoning and, walla, done. No complaints.

Hulk on the other hand, need to be really big and overly muscular because he's a human, but with gamma-ray modifications, which works just like super ultra mega steroids fueled by anger. So, it's expected that Hulk is built like extreme version of body builders. If they make a movie where Hulk looks fit and lean like Superman, audience will riot, even though they both can lift a car with ease.

Let's see how they manage to explain Wonder Woman's strength. If they succeed, we don't need to worry about the physical shape of Gal Gadot.

But if they didn't, they need to reboot Wonder Woman ASAP and cast Serena Williams.

agree with u. u point out the facts.

Yeah, a good movie director and CGI department could make us believe that a garden spider could lift a Mack truck, if it was a demigoddess spider with Mystical Amazon Powers.

Which is a pity as I love women with strong bodies, but I have to admit that a strong-looking body isn't necessary for this film.

reply

I also love muscular women, Chyna was my favorite WWE female superstar. She looks really strong.

But for Wonder Woman it should have been Beth Phoenix.

Yes finally a reasonable person with a solid explanation.
The Wonder woman in this film kicks butt because she has powers. Even if she was 5 feet tall and 90 lbs still wouldn't matter. Guys who are trying to justify Wonder Woman's fighting ability by saying the actress can fight makes me laugh.

This is fantasy. Get over it. But at the same time I can see some people are realizing there sexual fantasy by hiding behind the argument that they are supporting a strong female character. That also is very transparent. You can see from one side there are these guys who get turned on by a cute girl kicking butt that is fine but don't hide behind something else own up to it.
On the other side like you said the actress can be tiny as hell and yet the story will still work because she has powers.

However that being said I would personally prefer a bit more variety in the casting of strong female characters. Many seem to look way too much a like. Almost like they are saying a girl needs to look a certain way to be a super heroine.

Those guys are simply counter arguing the people that say as she does not have a Serena Williams body type her fighting ability should be questioned.
