apart from the absence of men, why are the Amazons advanced in knowledge but technologically primitive

I think they wanted to preserve their way of life and saw no need to change much of how they did things. They were happy with the way things were on their island. Keep in mind that this was an island of immortal women, a set number of women who never aged or died, who started their lives in ancient Greece before fleeing to this sanctuary, never saw a need to leave their little paradise, and therefore were not influenced by outside cultures. That's why Diana had no other children to grow up with.
sharegiven the fact that they are aware of extra terrestrials, science and magic.. it seems illogical that they'd prefer to not develop sophisticated weaponry at least... i mean they are a warrior race, still fighting aliens with bow and arrow thousands of years later

The Amazons have everything they need to preserve their lifestyle on their island. They have no reason to change it. ergo no reason to pursue ways to improve it with new technology.
Well said! I was about to say "Because they have everything they need, that's why", but you said it better.
I presume that by 1920, the Amazons were working on better defenses, because it turns out they needed to keep the flying machines and rifles out. This would of course be a minor adjustment, that didn't affect the average citizen at all, the average Amazon could go about her pleasant day as she had for centuries.
Isolation and environment.
There is no need to change/adapt and no external influences to affect their culture.
They have super high tech. They're just invisible. Invisible planes (Wonder Woman has got one, it's super famous) probably also invisible tanks and maybe invisible submarines too... who knows? We simply can't see them.
