What state is this supposed to be set?

I get a Alabama feeling - but does it ever really say?

I get the impression it's set in the Kangaroo state, just like Green Acres.

I just watched it for the first time, I can't say for sure but there are Hickey relatives in Oregon, California, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia. We can be as red-neck as the next person or as educated as having PHDs. The accents said the South though as in Louisiana or nearby states as did the storyline which was the birth of a child of other than Caucasian parentage to Earl and his wife with the attitudes of discrimination.

I'm running through the episodes on Netflix again. In the first-season episode "Stole P's HD Cart" they need to go to the big city to the company's headquarters. There they mention a particular Los Angeles landmark, which I can't remember and don't want to research. So I figured it was somewhere inland of L.A.--like another poster said, maybe the Bakersfield area. But after reading these posts, I'm guessing they just don't care about inconsistencies because it's only about laughing. Good enough for me.

I always thought Georgia. Listen to those accents- they sure aren't southwestern. Also, Civil War events are referenced a couple of times, so it's almost certainly somewhere southeast of an Arkansas-Pennsylvania line. It's in a made-up location, so it doesn't have to be specific about where, but it's definitely somewhere in Lynyrd Skynyrd-land.

I don't care what state y'all think this was set, but you only have to go west here 2 miles and find that Earle and his show were based somehow in Weatherby, MO (not Weatherby Lake, Weatherby, MO) - home of the small town even my late father said, "I wish a tornado would blow that piece of crap town away!" I agree. It is full of meth labs, white trash, and decaying buildings. Just fact.

I do think that Jason Lee does a magnificent job of portraying the lead. Perhaps all who co-starred or just wanted to get in on the fun of this "real life portrayal" of bum#$5k would love to see it actually exists.

Oh, and the only reason I am still here is because my Mother still "views" Weatherby, Missouri" as this lovely litte railroad town it used to be when she was a child. I do not. I am a former professional opera singer and I just came back to take care of my mother.

I think everyone's kind of missing the point. Just like The Simpsons' "Springfield", it's "anywhere USA", and it's also not important. It's a suburb anywhere, because there are people like this anywhere, meaning ANYONE can decide to turn their lives around.

Things like to was loosely based on a place in Maryland doesn't mean it takes place in Maryland. That's probably just where Garcia grew up and it's familiar to him.

I'm from California, it feels like California to me, it makes it seem familiar and likable that way. (well technically it's filmed in California so I may be picking up on that) but still it's anywhere, and it's not important.

It's just these people somewhere, trying to live their lives, just like all of us.

That's what makes the show so endearing. I really hope it comes back.

In Season 1 Ep 6 The Professor, Earl gets a postcard. His address is

Earl Hickey
The Palms Motel Rm 231
9005 Lincoln Blvd
Camden USA

So that's really no help...

The trailer park in the NBC sitcom My Name Is Earl is named "Pimmit Hills Trailer Park" after the neighborhood. The series creator, Greg Garcia, lived in Pimmit Hills for a time as a child-

I always got an Alabama vibe considering every local is a hick and talks with a southern accent, and all of them are parodies of white trash. Nothing against Alabama.

But I guess (West) Virgina makes sense, too, as that is also a nowhere, hillbilly state full of stupid hicks and petty criminals. Nothing against West Virginia.

They have an episode where they steal a chopper from the guys on American Chopper in Orange County. My guess was California, but looking up the show, turns out this O.C. is in New York :O
