Patience

So, basically what they are saying is, if it wasn't for Patience super psychic power,
Dean, Jody and her dad would all be dead...this more referring to Dean getting killed - really?
I get that they want these wayward characters to all seem so awesome, but it only annoyed me.

I'm with you SW. This episode should have been about 5 minutes long. Gee we know where the killer will strike next but let's drive to Georgia and let him beat us to the one we are trying to save? And really she didn't see herself being kidnapped?

reply

Yeah, when the wraith
stabbed Dean all those times - killing him
I'm like, yeah sure. They wanted Patience to be the hero and I just wasn't buying it.

Unfortunately the actress was pretty weak. She didn't really sell her character very well. And of course the writing was surprisingly bad for a Berens script.

reply

Actually I think Berens went rapidly downhill the minute Carver left and Dabb took over. If Carver accomplished anything, it was bringing in Berens and getting good writing and ideas from him. But Berens' writing and focus changed dramatically and for the worse under Dabb, IMO, so I didn't expect a whole lot from this episode, and didn't receive it.

But just a reminder that the whole point of this particular episode - much of the point of the entire season - is the spin-off, which I still believe Jack will become a part of given the fact that the showrunners have turned the entire series over to him from the premiere.

Patience is another Wayward whatever, and she was to be introduced in this episode. So, sure, she was going to be the annoying heroine to some extent - which was only slightly more annoying than the super bad psy abilities.

Yeah, I thought she was weak, and thus fits right in with the crowd. Get used to her.

reply

I agree about Berens. He hasn't been the same under Dabb. If this was the big launch for the spin off I would have to give it a fail. I hope that SPN, CW and WB aren't really going to hang their hat on this idea as the replacement for the mother ship. That just makes me sad.

reply

Good Lord, they're planning, yet, another spinoff? Did they not learn from "Supernatural: Bloodlines"?

I agree about Dean; he would not have been overpowered and stabbed multiple times by a wraith.

reply

Her vision of Dean dying annoyed me too. Dean can beat demons with super strength in a fist fight, but gets killed by a wraith? I mean if they made something out of it like Dean was getting sloppy, I guess I'd buy it. But it was just ridiculous that had that girl not been able to warn him, Dean would be dead.

reply

Not to mention that it was a wraith SHE managed to beat up.

As I posted on another site:

Good Grief....what did I sit through?
Jody - I love you, but you were worthless in this episode. Just hang around until your little speech at the end.....I know, I know....spin-off..
Dean - I love you, but other than your fight scene.......which you handled on your own....oh wait....yeah, you were warned....right? I fail to remember.
Sam - I love you, bravo for defending Jack and your willingness to give him a chance, but I want to see your grief too.
Jack - Please stand side by side with Sam while looking into a mirror.....yeah, see that head of hair right next to you? Puh-leze emulate that!
Castiel - Welcome back dude! I think. Depends on what they do with you. Oh wait, with you back, the brothers can leave Jack with you...please hurry back.
Missouri - Bye. Haven't seen or talked to the boys in a decade...who, to the world, are dead, mind you (right?), yet you just ring up Sam's cell. Other world contacts, I'll bet.
Patience - Sorry honey, you cannot act. You are restrained to a chair, have seen a vision of 3 people's death and the most you can do is....weakly yell? Blah.
Whoever directed this episode - Patience should have been squirming, rocking, and kicking and screaming in that chair....way not to build tension and suspense.
The Wraith - hello actor? Yeah, you need a new agent......
Blonde psychic whose name I don't remember - you were the best actress on my TV screen.

*sigh*

I may not have agreed with the ALL the storylines Carver chose or went with or agreed to or approved or wrote, but season 12 nearly did me in and 3 episodes in this season has me wishing for Cas, Rowena, Crowley, Benny, Kevin, pre-Dabb Jody.....Lucifer, go away. Mary, go with him.

I do like action and fight scenes, though.
