I admit I only watched the first 30 minutes before I shut it off. 30 wasted minutes.
I don't look for absolute accuracy all of the time, but this was written and directed by someone who has no F'in clue what POW's went through. Dragged by a water buffalo for 50 whole feet for telling the camp commander to F off?? Oh, the humanity.

This movie sucked the first 30 minutes, but then I kept watching and it continued to suck. The acting was fair to poor, the realism was completely non-existent, I kept slapping my forehead in frustration as it went on. I hate movies like this because the ratings are fairly high, so they lure you in. Unfortunately, they end up sucking and it becomes a giant waste of time.
What happened to the Christian Bale who used to be a good actor, who selected his films carefully so that whenever he made an appearance in something I knew it would be good? Everything after 2005 sucked.

Anyway I finally got to see this today and I'd have to say it's a pretty decent film. I love watching all types of movies, the Rambos and the more realistic ones like this. I'm sure Mr Herzog is used to all the negatives about his films by now. I honor him for the fact that he is a filmmaker and continues to work no matter what. I hope he always gets to make films the way he wants, if we don't happen to like them it doesn't really mean anything anyway, well maybe to the box offices and producers. Even Ed Wood is love for his work now and who would have guessed that would ever happen?! I think if someone hires a director to make a movie, then they should let him make it. I personally would like to have a bigger smile on the Mona Lisa's face, so maybe they can just paint over the original or something. .. take care everyone.. peace.. tc

While I didnt find this movie realistic, I still enjoyed it. It's kinda like A Clockwork Orange or Mystic River, in that all the characters behave unrealistic and theatrical, but that's what's good about it. It's original, and makes it engaging, even if how they acted and what they did wasn't realistic. It's all about the dramatic aspects of it

I actually missed the first 20 minutes or so and watched the rest and really liked the movie. I'd like to see the first 20 minutes sometime along, but it sounds like it might be kind of slow moving and perhaps that is why it didn't grasp some's interest. I thought Bale was very good and so was Zahn.

A lot of the torture was filmed but cut out because "as an audience member" Herzog hates seeing a defenseless person be hurt. If you get off on watching torture, that's fine... but this movie is shockingly similar to the true story of what happened to US POW Dieter Dengler. The writer and director who "has no F'in clue what POWs went through" interviewed him extensively, studied his story, and made a documentary with him.

which kind of movie do you watch generally and which one do you appreciate it? the movie starts with gunfire,stupid bang bang bang boom boom boom,then some more boom boom bang bang,or like iron man kind of movie where you can put your brain to sleep and just enjoy the hours,is that kind of movie you like?
Rescue dawn is an amazing tale of survival and bale did his career performance in it,but certainly one who shuts the movie off in just 30 mins clearly has not any rite to predict a movie is bad or not,
JUST REWRITE THE SUBJECT "THIS MOVIE IS HORRIBLY BAD BECAUSE IT DOESN'T CONTAIN ENOUGH GUNFIRE AND MISSILE ATTACK OR ANY RAPE ATTEMPT OR ANY KIND OF KISSING SCENE IN THE FIRST 30 MINUTES"
