What's with all the penis abuse in movies these days?

Ok, I'm a guy, and I've had my share of guffaws to a good penis joke or a well-timed blow to the nuts on screen here or there, but it seems lately that things have just gotten extreme and way out of hand. It's getting to the point where it's becoming something of a standard in movies for mature audiences, for Mr Willy to be humiliated, beaten, kicked, electrocuted, twisted, sliced, mangled, torn, shot, or (in the case of this movie and others) bitten off. I'm not talking about fringe cinema, extreme stuff has always happened there - I'm talking about mainstream movies. What's the deal here? I realize that most of these films are written and produced by men - do these guys hate their manhood so much that they want to defile and destroy it onscreen? Sure, there are contexts where it makes sense, or is even justified, but I think we've gone well beyond that and turned it into a twisted form of entertainment. I don't think women would stand for it if vaginas were routinely being shot, lacerated, impaled, sliced, burned etc with the same abandon. Yes, I know that has been depicted in movies before - and those movies are swiftly labeled as sick and mysogynistic - but these days it seems that it's all about Death to the Penis. What's going on?

What do you think of the original I Spit on Your Grave? i saw that movie when i was in junior high in the mid 90s on video and it made me sick even with that scene where the rape victim lady was seducing one of her rapists in the tub then grabs a knife from under the rug then castrates him.

OMG, i felt light headed after seeing that scene and was nearly sick.

The penis is only ever targeted in my opinion when it is relevant to the characters behaviour: If the male is an alpha male and perhaps a bit misogynistic. a player. It does seem fitting for their prize possession and evidently the thing they love the most to be destroyed. I think that's the point in why it happens in a lot of films they seem to like the deaths to relate to the character and as most films follow conventional stereotypes it's easy to repeat this type of death.

However I don't think it's just a dig at males. In All the boys love Mandy Lane, the one girl who is portrayed as a slag, meets her end with the barrel of a gun forced down her throat in a manner reminiscent to an act previously performed in a previous scene. I think most the time it's used for dark comedy and in a sense part of the characters development rather than just a *beep* you.

its pure propaganda they dont want us the spread out more, so they encurage people to chop off dicks and stick it in their asses... must be an 'american thing'...

As you have pointed out, either new or old, both male/female parts have suffered abuse. You would probably find that the penis getting attacked in this day and age is probably down to feminism or something or other, but both parts have had their fair share of abuse.

I wouldn't worry about it, I think it's good that there isn't just one side that is constantly hurt and it is only a film, don't take it to heart.

Honestly, it's gotten old. We need something new like chopping off boobs or stabbing vaginas. You know, something original.
