Am I the only nerd?
That loved the "pop goes my heart song". I really think back in the day it would have been a hit. I loved it. Anyone with me?

I loved it too
shareI have to say that, by the 1980's, I was slightly beyond the "POP" music of the day, and was turning more to Classical Music: ...being a 50's and 60's "POP" era person.
That said: I LOOOOOVED the song 'Pop Goes My Heart' in this movie. .....It was the first time I had heard the song, ...or anything like it. .....IMO: .....GREAT!
This comes from a 65-year-old, semi-profesional musician guy who thinks of to-day's "POP" as "BUMP-BANG MUSIC"; and makes no attempt to play it.
But: .....as a musician: .....I REALLY MUST LEARN "POP GOES MY HEART", and a couple of other numbers from this movie. They're FANTASTIC!
Do I quallify as a Nerd, please? .....Or am I just too darn old?
"Wait.....The Key.....I.....I need the key back.".
Dr. Elizabeth Masterson. .....(L.J.R. Witherspoon.).
Ronbus,
You're never too old. I tell you what, I am really impressed with the person or persons who wrote the lyrics for the songs in the film. Hugh Grant is very convincing as an 80's has been who is musically revived by a brilliant lyricist.
The singer songwriter or singer songwriter duo's are sadly missing today.
Hi ronbus
That's great that you liked the songs! Does the qualify you as a nerd? Maybe, but it's cool to allow yourself to be a nerd sometimes! :-) It's good to have a wide range of musical taste.
The song Pop goes my heart, was made for the film, so you wouldn't have heard that before.
Nerd? Hey, that video was great! :D

Dwight: "Dammit he put my stapler in jello again!"

Psh. No. I love it too haha. Once I heard it, I said "I've got to download this." =]
shareTo all of you posters that loved the songs from Music & Lyrics:
You should check out the band Fountains of Wayne. Their main songwriter/bassist/backup vocalist, Adam Schlesinger (http://imdb.com/name/nm0772245/) wrote most of the songs sung by Hugh Grant in the movie. He's also written songs for a ton of other movies, including the very catchy tunes for the movie, "That Thing You Do!"
His band is incredible and is well-known for the poppy, can't-get-out-of-your-head style of songs you all have mentioned enjoying in your posts. I suggest starting with their eponymous debut album, then Utopia Parkway, and then continuing forward, but all their albums come highly recommended!
Just my two cents.
I liked that movie too! I recently bought the soundtrack. That Thing You Do! was definitely a bit of a Beatles rip off, but also done exceedingly well.
Thanks for your two cents! I am going to check out more of Adam Schlesinger's work.
Another "child of the eighties" here, and I loved the music in this film, I think they really nailed the cheesy catchy feelgood era perfectly!
And I bought the soundtrack too.
