Similar movies?

I enjoyed this film and I'd loved to watch similar movies, any suggestions?

What I mean similar is:

- Feel good movie, but not too childish.
- Characters are little weird, but not over the top or morons.
- There is little obstacles in main characters life (or romance), but not in way like my dog died and now my life is ruined.
- Ending can be sad also, if it makes sense.

IMDB recommendations are usually nothing like the movie you just watched, so please recommend better ones.

Movies I would say are little similar to this are:

- Cinema paradiso
- A bronx tale
- A walk in the clouds
- The girl next door
- Untamed heart

Especially I would like to see a movie where's still some innocence left.

-I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it

for some reason, that makes no sense at all except for its beginning in the 50s, this reminded me of "heart and souls".

other than that:

IT (without the horror elements)

the tv show "the wonder years"

I agree with a lot of movies already mentioned.
For some reason the majority of these types of movies were made in the 90's.

Some that haven't being mentioned and happen to be some of my favorites are:
King of the Hill(1993)
The War(1994)
Joe the King(1999)

I also loved The Squid and the Whale(2005) and The Wackness(2008).
They are a more adult subject matter but I thought I would give them an honorable mention if you like the movies above.

My suggestion which haven't been mentioned yet:

City Island,
Birds of America
Lars and the Real Girl

(for me they have the same feel to it. Also the genre is hard to describe)

I'd recommend Phoebe in wonderland, and of course a lot of the movies already mentioned. Loved Flipped, btw!

Twelve and Holding comes to mind. It's actually not a similar movie as it isn't a romance, but it is a movie made for adults to view that includes a cast of mostly children. Judging from the descriptions in your post, I think you will enjoy Twelve and Holding.
