This film ruined superhero genre

I still remember before this film superhero genre was dark brooding and realistic (watchmen tdk batman begins the incredible hulk spiderman 2 etc). Superhero was not a joke material but then this film happened and audience view about superhero changed superhero became a joke unrealistic person who cracks toilet jokes and this is the prime reason why the dark knight rises was not received well by critics compare to the dark knight and this is the reason why mos did not become a huge commercially successful film .

Why we don't get a film like Batman begins or dark knight? this film is the simple reason for it

Oh, please. You have Man of Steel, BvS and Justice League stinking up the genre and you blame the one critics and audiences LIKED?

DCU fanboy myopia, Martha....

You are taking like some blind mcu fanboy grow up dude use some logic in comment

Except I'm just as much a DC fan. That's how I know DCU movies STINK.

reply

The opposite is true.

This and "Iron Man" took comic book movies out of the DC rut and made them fun!

I dont know what Nolan and he other DC people have against fun, but obviously they hate the very idea.

Even then, Nolan injected quite a bit of humor in the Dark Knight Trilogy, particularly in Batman Begins. It should be noted that Wonder Woman and Aquaman had a ton of humor in them and they are considered the best DCCU movies while Shazam seems to be an outright comedy (it fits the concept of the character).

Coming from a huge comic fan, superheroes are ridiculous. Even in works like Watchmen, the original writers deconstructed the superhero genre to show a more realistic approach that was usually not seen in comics. The Watchmen comic is brilliant (unlike the movie) but Alan Moore will be the first to tell you that superheroes are goofy and in order to get something truly serious out of the genre, you have to dissect it a little. If you want to get a more typical superhero feel in a movie, it's absolutely doable but you have to take a bit of humor along with it because it's all a bit silly.

That said, even in the MCU, there have been some really heavy, serious moments. Infinity War ended with half the universe dying. If a person thinks that movie is too lighthearted, I'm not sure how much darker they want to get.

Well done otter, took the words right out of my post

I think its nice to have various types of super-hero films. If they were all Christopher Nolan-ish, it would get boring real fast. Same thing can be said about any one style of film making. I prefer the X-Men style of fantastical elements grounded in reality, but Im glad I could watch BvS or Dark Knight if Im in the mood for something gritty and dark. I enjoy having available the many different flavors of comic-book movie.

That's one of the many things I like about Marvel Films, they give fans "various types of super-hero films"!

Really, they've put out everything from the serious "Winter Soldier", to the roaring adventure of "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Black Panther", to the family drama of "Ant Man" and the screwball comedy of "Thor Ragnarok". Being a Marvel fan has been very rewarding.

reply

This is a comic book movie, if you want dark and brooding go watch schindlers list

MOS wasn't a commercial success because it was fucking dull and boring

reply

Marvel is pretty good with mixing in the right amount of humor, and I though it was just right for this movie. The only one where they went too far was Ragnarok.

reply

Agreed, Texas. But thats one of the reasons why I liked Thor 3. Definitely not what I was expecting, but it was a fun movie (like The Predator). Also, after watching Thor 3 I watched Wilder People which was directed by the same director. Guy knows how to make movies. But still, you're 100% correct

reply

I'm definitely in the minority, because Ragnarok killed at the box office.
