John Campea says Ben Affleck wants to leave The Batman Role.

All I saw was Campea saying that we should take that with a grain of salt and that he have been wrong before. Stop spreading bad rumors.

Sounds like out of date information. Ben didn't want to direct it anymore, and a lot of people took that as him wanting to quit the role. Which turned out to be false. And now apparently the script is satisfactory, despite rumors of a total rewrite.

I'm betting he quits. Soon, we'll get word that Matt Reeves wants to make some adjustments to the script. They'll tell us that production won't start until 2018. After JL comes out, we'll finally get word that Affleck isn't even starring in The Batman. They'll say that they wanted to do a prequel that features a younger Batman (maybe Armie Hammer).

This is my prediction.

If Ben Affleck quits it's officially time to put the DCEU behind us.

reply

Sadly I think that might be true. I've stood by the DCEU so far but if WBs meddling has ****ed things up to the extent that Affleck leaves I will have no more time for it.

"A big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff" The Tenth Doctor explains all.

He's contractually obligated to do two more movies so he can't just quit. If he truly does want out then I could see them killing him off in The Batman or JL2 and Dick taking up the mantle but WB won't just let him quit.

Could cameos or bit-roles in Aquaman and Flash, etc. fulfill those contractual terms?

Possibly but Affleck, his agent and people at WB only know that for sure. I remember reading that his cameo in Suicide Squad was not originally written into his contract and was added. It's only a guess but I'd think they locked him up for multiple leading roles through JL2.

I'd bet money we'll see him JL2 and The Batman and if Wonder Woman, The Batman and JL 1 & 2 are well received then you'll see him in more than that.

reply

it sounds like Campea throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks. if the worst happens and the entire DC movie slate is scrapped.. i guess that would make for an interesting story for his show at least until the next MCU or Star Wars movie comes out.

it would be strange to reboot.. which characters do they get rid of? complete and total reboot which could take possibly another decade or a soft reboot where they keep Gal,Henry,Jeremy & Jared?

I'm not worried about Batman because the WB always figures out how to push a Batman movie out into the universe (good or bad). the movie that they should be focused on instead is The Flash which was supposed to come next year. DC still has an open date where The Flash was supposed to go.. so how do they fill it?

Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today.

reply

Then it must be true.

Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man? 

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he did. The stress, pressure and probably nervous breakdowns of hearing Batman questions every 5 minutes already sent him running as fast as he can from the director's chair. IMO, I think he is scared to death of doing The Batman, literally.

His biggest fear is starring in a Batman film that is deemed a monumental failure and having to hear about it for the rest of his life, the taunts and angry fans that would let him know about it and because of that, he may play the role differently, maybe safer than he would otherwise.

Where as if a newcomer were cast, a fresh face that could take over the role with nothing to lose would go for broke and really let it all go. Perhaps an opportunity to get an alternate universe Batman a chance, Terry McGinnis Batman Beyond live action.

reply

Agree on what you're saying here. But I think he may be willing to listen what the upcoming director have in stall first, before taking a decision. It would be a big loss if he left. At least we get to see him in Justice League.

reply

Hes not quitting batman an has never said he wants to I dont know why these rumors all ways pop up lol also he has been batman is bvs suicide squad an now justice league an soon solo batman thats enough batman either way

Things can all ways change. But thats totally besides the point. He has never said hes quitting batman>So logically going by this info he is staying for the long run.Which will only be a few years. After solo batman he will have been batman for 4 or so movies.Thats enough just let him do justice league 2 an thats enough batman.

Not being a jerk but thats silly. For all we know hes thinking he can fly lol.We can only go by real info an hes fine with the role so far.Its a good pay check as are all these films not to mention he will only be batman for about 2 or 3 more movies

reply

[deleted]

If he does then I've completely lost respect for him not because he's leaving but just because of how dishonest he'll have been.

You don't say "I'm still fully committed to this project" if you're planning on completely quitting lol.

What a dick move.

he would have to delay the announcement until the wonder woman and justice league are out, him announcing hes leaving could lose them alot of money, so if he is to leave he'll do it after those films come out

reply

Then why even bother with the director announcement prior to those films forcing Affleck to lie in the about his continued involvement in the meantime?

If true then that will be very disappointing, and a complete lack of perseverance on Affleck's part.
