Never even bothered with the last one

I completely lost interest when they started killing off the legacy characters.

actually, the last one is the best IMO. although best is subjective when compared to the first 2.

you should give it a watch sometime...

The LAST JEDI was pretty much the nail in the coffin and there was a reason why Mark Hamill wasn't happy with the direction of his character and was very vocal about it, but Disney shoved the gag in his mouth over it.. I never bothered with the final movie either and won't bother with the all male hating STAR WARS featuring an all female cast from the sound of it

The last one I saw was the furry puppet one in 1983. Haven't bothered since, and couldn't care less.

You were one of the smart ones.

Return of the Jedi is just about as bad as the other 6 that came out after it.

reply

Without the nostalgia and the intrinsic connection to the first two, you aren't wrong.

I know. Jedi is, for the most part, a $h!t movie.

The rescue "plan" at Jabba's Palace makes no sense.

Luke being almost a fully trained jedi, but he didn't go back to Dagoba to train with Yoda makes no sense.

Luke and Leia being brother and sister is nasty creepy and gross, unless (like George) you find incestual relationships fascinating.

Having yet another Death Star and having it blow up by using almost the exact same method as was used in the original (Fly into it fire some lasers and escape) is $h!t writing.

Having Luke simply surrender himself to the Empire was lame.

Having the rebellion simply walk into the shield generator with no resistance was dumb (and yes, I have seen the deleted footage of the battle inside the shield generator. It's so bad that it had to be cut).

Ewoks- do I have to elaborate?

Don't get me started on the 1997 special edition changes- UGH!

There are however, two good things about this film.

The space battle does look REALLY good. To date it's still the best-looking space battle that I have ever seen.

Vader reading Luke's mind and saying "If you won't turn to the dark side then your sister will" was good writing. Too bad Luke's sister was his incestual love interest! F'n creepy George.

I don't mean to come down so hard on George, but it just goes to show you how creepy, perverted and weird the people in Hollywood are!

Jedi is a $h!t movie. If it hadn't come out when it did it would be way more reviled than it is.

I'm with you on just about all of your points except for the Death Star being rebuilt; connecting to the original premise of the Death Star, the development of which wasn't elaborated on in the first, and coming full circle with it being the ultimate aim of the Empire gave more weight to the premise that the "good" people in the galaxy could be united in something as critical as the destruction of a weapon that can destroy planets. For sure it could have been written better, but at least the premise wasn't translated into a throwaway explosion scene like in whichever of the newer ones that happened in.

But yes, Return of the Jedi isn't a good movie and it's value is based purely on its connection to the first two.

I know and the series gets stupider and stupider.

reply

No point with this movie. Rey will just 'Mary Sue' her way out of everything.

reply

I didn't bother with the last 2 either. Having to endure the horrible, sneering Daisy Ridley in the first one was more than enough. The woman cannot act.
