Michael’s Speech…

When he gives the lowdown to the folks in the diner/gas station. Best part of the movie. Where he states that he was the first to bow down before newly created man & that he loved him only 2nd to God.

It’s nice, but not biblical by any means. Angels themselves are never portrayed as loving or compassionate toward human beings. They’re soldiers who take their marching orders from God and as such they conduct themselves only that way.

In the book of “Tobit” the angel Raphael was sent to guide & help young Tobias but the angel made it clear that he did so not because of his own account but only because he was told to do so.

That is more in line with how they think I’m afraid. It’s not out of mercy for us. Michael being one of the more steadfast angels would’ve felt the same way.

“The Prophecy” with Christopher Walken, again as Gabriel, got it correct where the protagonist Thomas gave this speech. “Did you ever notice how in the Bible, whenever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?”

This movie is laughable in the respect that a single angel is all it would take to get the job done. One angel could slaughter entire armies in the Bible, but they can’t beat a bunch of rag tag humans in a gas station/diner? I”m thinking God really didn’t want to exterminate us. Not really. In the end Michael tells Gabriel “You gave him what he asked for, I gave him what he needed”. Which I think this is what God was waiting on so he’d have a reason to spare us.

Never mind the fact why is Gabriel always depicted as a villian? “Constantine”. This movie, who knows what else. Curious don’t you think? He only gave humanity the greatest message ever in the nativity but you have him wanting to kill us all in this. Where was “the Son” in this? No mention of Jesus & what he thought about what was going on? Oh well. It’s mediocre fare this film. I do watch it when it comes on, it’s all I can say.
