Opening day: 6m D + 9m I = $15½m WW; Thur $36m WW

Streaming same day. Not going to make even $100m domestic!

personally, I feel same day streaming hurts movies. they should give them at least one week in theater first, so all the antsy people get excited and go.

the covid fearful will skip that anyway, and wait a week or two for the streaming.

if it wasn't streaming, I would probably find a theater during a dead time, and go see it. but, I can stream so, meh, why go to theater? my home screen probably looks better anyway

reply

Agreed, its madness streaming at the same time, this will be another flop for WB

reply

It's this exactly - the same thing happened to Suicide Squad. I would have definitely seen both in the theater but it's available right here on my TV at no extra charge (save my subscription which I was paying for anyway).

Is the theater a better experience? Without a doubt. Is it worth my driving to said theater, plopping down $30 for me and the missus to get in to see it when I can just sit at home and do it? No.

reply

$30 just for tix. Gotta get food and drinks too. If we are dropping that much, it isn't too much to ask that the movie doesn't suck.

It also doesn't help that the film isn't very good, and it released a week after Spiderman (the biggest film of the year).

Whoever is running the show WB doesn't seem like they know what they're doing.

The whole HBO streaming deal was just a failed attempt to gain subscribers. It wasn't because COVID was preventing people from going to theaters.

What WB doesn't realize is an HD pirated copy will be uploaded to the net the minute these films hit streaming ( Matrix 4 was already leaked on torrent sites before release apparently).

They lost a lot of money from people would've otherwise gone to a theatre to see it, but chose to pirate or stream instead.

Just look at Dune and Suicide Squad. Those would've made much more money had they not been on HBO MAX.

Deadline: Elsewhere, Warner Bros’ The Matrix Resurrections took in another $6.1M on Thursday from 67 overseas markets currently in release, bringing the international running cume to $25.3M. With domestic, that brings it to $35.8M worldwide.
