I seem to remember reading some years back that the Spider-Woman rights were an absolute nightmare. Don't know if that's still the case.

I think Marvel/Disney has the rights to Spider-Woman and Sony has the rights to… the rest. So they made a movie about The Rest.

unless they made a deal to get use for that movie, they must have the rights?

I think it was meant to he but did they specifically say the name Jessica Drew? That might be a way around the copyrights.

i don't know if she ever gave her name, but on imdb she's listed as jessica drew in the cast list.

We can't even get a faithful to the comics Jessica Drew movie cause Sony owns the rights despite her backstory involving her being brainwashed by Hydra and Nick Fury making her realize Hydra brainwashed her. Stupid film rights! She has nothing to do with Spider-Man aside from him and her occasionally teaming up with him in the comics.
