Doesn't look like a Guy Ritchie film.

It looks like a B movie with a director trying to be like Guy Ritchie. Either way I'm still watching it.

reply

Yesss! Thank you! Kept thinking that while watching the trailer. Guy has a very unique style. Most of his films look & feel a certain way.

This doesn't look or feel that way. This looks very "ordinary".

Still gonna check out though. Fan of Guy Ritchie. Thoroughly enjoyed The Gentlemen. So freaking good.

reply

I'm such a big Guy Ritchie fan, I sat through Aladdin.

reply

Love Ritchie & Tim Burton but I honestly have no interest in any of the live action adaptations of the Disney cartoons

I genuinely don't see the point. I've literally seen 'em already.

With the exception of The Jungle Book. Never seen the original cartoon. Had to check out the Jon Favreau film. Pretty decent.

"With the exception of The Jungle Book. Never seen the original cartoon."

!!!

Take yourself to see the Jungle Book NOW. *Now*, I say!!!

No, really. What are you still doing here?

Yer welcome.

reply

Did you miss the part I said, "Had to check the Jon Favreau film. Pretty decent"

I also checked out The Netflix one, because, well, I love Andy Serkis. Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would

reply

No, I didn't miss it. It's not complicated. . .if you saw the live action film, you OWE it to yourself to see the original. Classic, classic, CLASSIC material. You're doing yourself a disservice if it's the only version you Haven't seen. Trust me on this one. . .

reply

Ok. Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely gonna put it on my watchlist.

reply

You wanna really impress us, you sit through Swept Away.

reply

I did.

reply

And?
😺

reply

I want to forget it.

reply

You mean you want your memory to be... swept away?

reply

Get out.

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERTS.......MD, I just saw the film in a movie theater. What a treat to see a film in a theater. Anyway, it is lacking that Guy Ritchie feel. What do the best Guy Ritchie films, i.e., "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", "Snatch", "RocknRolla" and "The Gentlemen" all have in common? Pithy dialogue, strange and unique characters, great multiple story lines, and Humour! I spelled humor with an "U" to honor our British friends. This is a film that would be an okay Netflix film. I was expecting more. Perhaps the hint is the slew of writers:
Writing Credits
Nicolas Boukhrief ... (written by) and
Éric Besnard ... (written by)

Guy Ritchie ... (screenplay by) &
Marn Davies ... (screenplay by) and
Ivan Atkinson ... (screenplay by)
Often that is a warning. Anyway, I was back in a theater. The movie was not horrible. I had a good time.

How's the action though? These types of film are made or letdown by how well the action is handled

Is it choppy & shaky cam or more like the better handled action films of late?

reply

The action scenes are well done. The acting is somewhat wooden. Scott Eastwood was great. I miss the humor and the dialogue of Guy Ritchie's better works. I eagerly await the next Guy Ritchie film.
From Snatch:
Avi: Eighty-six carats.

Rosebud: Where?

Avi: London.

Rosebud: London?

Avi: London.

Avi's Colleague: London?

Avi: Yes, London. You know: fish, chips, cup 'o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary f***ing Poppins... LONDON.

The Gentlemen was definitely "back to form" for Ritchie. Great dialogue & fantastic performances.

Not on the same level as Snatch and Lock, Stock but definitely one of his best films in recent years

reply

"Why do they call him the Bullet Dodger??"
Very dryly "Because he dodges bullets Avi."

One of the most quotable movies ever!

reply

No it doesn’t it looks like a money grab

reply

I hope the only money grab there is is some Guy Ritchie gangsters thieving from everyone in the film.

reply

It actually struck me as more of a favor movie. Like Ritchie owed somebody a solid.

reply

Yeah I feel that too, expedited production with a seemingly winning formula but as expected reviews are mixed. I’m a huge Guy Ritchie fan ever since Snatch which is a masterpiece but I have not really liked anything he’s done since Sherlock Holmes part two.

reply

A lot of these direct to streaming movies feel like.. "we need this for our platform, so if you want another studio blockbuster with us, you're gonna do it." And so these filmmakers just bang one out. Which is interesting, cause that's kind of how things used to be back in the day.

reply

Nice evaluation, I kinda think theres truth to that.

reply

Though I agree with most of the observation ITT, I really liked it. Liked it much more than The Gentleman. There are still Ritchie'isms in there but fewer and mostly early on. I really liked how it makes you think certain tropes are about to unfold .... until they suddenly don't. Satisfying. Many side characters have small significant developments that hit beautiful dramatic notes too. Not common. 8/10

I always love Jefferey Donovan and Scott Eastwood finally gave a performance I like.

I swore decades ago that I'd watch any movie with Josh Hartnet in it after he turned down the role of Superman because "I'm not a good choice." Respect. He did great as usual in this.

reply

To be fair, maybe it doesn't look like one of his movies because it's a remake.

reply

Ah! OK, that makes sense.

reply

Yeah, it's rushed. But it's still fun.

reply

I knew pretty early on while watching that it was a Guy Ritchie film, without having seen who the director was. Every movie he makes doesn't have to have an identical style. It was close enough.

reply

I think it's because this looked a little cheap. Was this done on digital film? It had a very strange look to it.
