This Series Traces the Use of the Cell Phone

This movie series traces the evolution of the cell phone and its ubiquitous presence in our lives. In some ways it's a bigger horror than the killings, at least as I see it. In the first film, Billy Loomis is a suspect partly because he had a cell phone when he was at Sydney's house when she was attacked.

The sheriff asked him almost accusingly, "Son what were you doing with a cellular phone?"

By the time Scream 4 came out, every teen was practically surgically attached to his or her phone.

In the commentary for Scream 4, the actresses were chuckling at the use of one character's "old" cell phone which had a flip down keypad.

In this film the audience was constantly bombarded with stupid text messages. And Dewey who should have known better, actually STOPS in the middle of what he's trying to do (finishing off Ghostface) to look at his cell when it rings thereby distracting himself! DUH! Are phone calls THAT important?

The cell phone is another character in these films. Don't get me wrong, the voice actor is superb. But I guess I'm one of the rare people who find most cell phone use annoying and distracting. Ever sit at a red light when the idiot in front of you is talking or texting? I have. They don't notice the green light and I usually spend a minute yelling, "It's GREEN!"
I hate to use my horn. I find that to be rude too!

It was a disappointing way for him to die but still it's suppose to be a reflex rather than him thinking he should get that. The yes today line was cool though.

You can't really expect them to ignore these changes though. The movie happens in 2022, not 1996.
