Heart Operation? How does he pay?

He can't pay his rent, he sleeps in his car, he wrestles, he collapses, he has a big heart op and he walks out of the hospital with a scar.

Are they not bound by the law to help someone in dire need? I am not sure how America works but where i live the hospital is bound by the law to "save" you.

I guess it's glossed over but isn't it possible he pays for insurance at his part time job? It wouldn't have covered everything of course, but alot of places offer insurance for part timers.

The supermarket he works at is an Acme, an NJ/eastern PA chain that is a union shop. He could have had insurance through that job.

reply

i thought of this too. and then i realized, who ever said he even paid it?

reply

Another possibility would be that the promoter of the wrestling show he was at had to have some sort of insurance. Since his heart attack immediately followed a match it's not inconceivable that the surgery was covered under the promoters insurance

reply

he lied to his promoter and told him he was fine, remember? never told anybody but his daughter and tomei and they didnt give a *beep*

reply

He's talking about the promoter at the show where he had the heart attack. Not the one at the end of the movie.

Here's a thought. Maybe he had insurance. Lots of part-time jobs offer some form of insurance. Not the greatest, but it would cover emergency surgery. Then when you get the bill, the hospital works with you to pay it off.

I think it's obvious. He sold those limited edition Randy the Ram action figures and made a bundle on ebay. Also, the doctor requested an autograph, and the hospital has a deli counter to work in. That squared them.

Nevermind the idiot who brought up John Q. That dad refused to go where his tax dollars pay for, county hospital, and only wanted the best for his mutant bi-curious son. Sorry guy, get a real job before you start demanding the best doctors, hospitals and hearts for your kid.

In America, if someone with limited income and no health insurance has a catastrophic medical situation (such as he did in the movie), they can apply for emergency medicaid to help with (or pay in full) the medical bills associated with the medical emergency, even if the patient is not on medicaid at the time of the event. Many hospitals also are affiliated with certain charities which will help those with no insurance and under a certain income level.

1. If it's life threatening hospitals will perform operations whether you can pay for them or not and bill you for it.

2. It's possible Randy had Medicaid.
