If I had to guess, from seeing the poster I would say it was about a stereotypical 19th century "Man of Mystery" and his whimsical, slapstick adventures, probably in a Steampunkishly magical setting. Adrien Brody's mournful looking mug just makes it look like a parody.

shareYou are so right. Oh, man... I looked up a large image of that poster, and it is not improved. I see that there is at least one far better poster with a figure in the fog with the house looming in the distance and a stream of blood on the ground.
It strikes me that the star has a Producer credit and I suspect he really liked seeing his face dominating the poster. Surely that must have been what made a terrible poster design like that seem like a good idea.
