For me, the common thread that runs through the last two seasons is that I just can't help feeling sorry for that poor dog! Wallander's busy lifestyle with all the odd hours, random disappearances, etc. is not at all compatible with dog ownership...At least he gets a happy ending with Kurt's retirement in the last episode!
