Another Example Of Outrageous Cultural Appropriation

How can Henry Cavill as an ENGLISHMAN play the Highlander!

Outrageous. If the demographic were slightly different here we'd be calling for blood. Highlander should only be played by a genuine Scotland (perhaps Gerard Butler, the Greggs Sausage Roll loving Glaswegian) or by a transatlantic French speaker...

I agree 👍

Was just joking - although it is quite funny what with Henry Cavill being so English and the fact that Highlander wasn't played by a Scotch man in the first place...

They were talking about Cavill at one point but that would just be too unfair letting one man be both Superman and James Bond!

better than them rebooting it about some black lesbian and completely change the lore to steal yet another role

Now that wins the day for me. 👍

really ?
You've never heard the "Black Midget lesbian" so called joke before ?
Its trotted out so often by those determined to keep minorities off the screen I groan everytime I hear it.

Well how can an American born, Swiss/French raised man play a Scot. I'm of course talking about Christopher Lambert. Adrian Paul is also English, but he played a Scot in Duncan McLeod. For me I'd rather if it were true casting have Sam Heughan who is a Scot playing a Scot on Outlander. He's got a good body for it.

And Connery plays a Spaniard in the original film !

reply

It's called acting.

None of the Highlander actors have been Scottish. My favorite was Adrian Paul. I enjoyed his acting and his top-notch martial arts and fencing.

BTW, I wouldn't mind seeing a young unknown Scotsman playing the role, but they probably want a "bankable" actor.

reply

Sean Connery was was! Although he did play a Spaniard in the originals tbf...

reply

I know about Connery, but he never played the Highlander himself.

An issue with Scottish actors is that their dialect is hard to understand. I always needed subtitles when I watched Outlander especially during the first few seasons.

This is funny and true:

James McAvoy in Filth is a good chance to see him with his home grown accent.
