does this movie go too far in terms of being too extreme, too disturbing, and too hard to take?

they have film collections that do this called after dark film festival.

Good question. One I don't have an answer to. I don't know why I seek out these types of movies, but I do. I found a list of really disturbing movies and I had to watch all of them.

I've seen this movie twice now. The first time I didn't know what it was about at all and it did affect me; I even had to take a break in the middle. The second time, because I knew what was coming, I didn't find it shocking at all which allowed me to try to look for some of the meaning that the director said the movie was about. I'm not sure I found anything deep.

one critic on bloody disgusting said do not watch this movie. also on wikipedia it said this movie says as much about serbia as twilight says about the pacific northwest. it seems to me from what you said that this movie is a waste of time. some people have a really high tolerance level for extreme movies.

it just seems like from what i've read about this movie online, its' the ultimate litmus test for an extreme and hard to watch movie. i'm not going to try to watch it because i dont' think i can take it. it's interesting how you had to stop watching it halfway through. is that because you're not used to extreme or really violent movies? why did you have to stop watching it?

I have to be in the right state of mind to watch extreme violence and not have it affect me. I'm not a complete sociopath 😜. I stopped with this one because I was watching it late at night and I felt that I was emotionally being assaulted by the movie, and I simply needed a break. If you are familiar with some of the scenes from the movie, you might be able to guess which one that it was that I just didn't want to watch any more of it no matter how fake it looked.

The worst part about this movie is it is very well made. the characters, the camerawork, everything is so well done that it seems too real to be honest and that was makes it so disturbing. Most movies that are made for shock values are poorly made and that is what really makes this the most horrible movie ever made. You get attached to the characters and feel truly sick when everything goes downhill. Most fucked up movie I ever watched. This movie is a masterpiece tho in its own way and I cant deny that. It accomplishes exactly what it was going for in the absolute worst way

The fact that you don't have a problem with a newborn baby being raped and a young boy getting anally raped by his father in a movie but you do have a problem with girls dancing suggestivly in 'Cuties' is telling about your stupid hypocrisy.

i just said this movie was the most fucked up movie i ever watched! doesnt change the fact that the camerawork is well done and acting is good. also cuties is mainstream this is an independent film that isnt accessible to children thru mainstream channels like netflix

Yes. Children being sexually harmed in any way, on film or otherwise, is unnacceptable.

But you are describing these events as though they are real. They are not.

We see representations on screen of these events. Thats all. Surely your brain tells you OK, its strong stuff, disturbing etc...but thank goodness its not real.

For the record I have not seen the movie, and would not watch it as I am not a big horror movie fan, but I do like some examples of the genre.

However, I have never understood the type of people who post stuff like " why would people want to watch people being killed/raped/dismembered" etc.

No one in their right mind would get off on the real life depictions of such acts, but when you are watching a movie and you know its not real...for me it's totally different. Its...not...real.

Let's just say that if it were released today, right wing Twitter would start a campaign to have it banned.

there's no such thing as "too extreme, too disturbing, and too hard to take" in movies / art. it's all subjective anyway.
