The concept doesnt seems appealing at all

Judging from the trailers it seem theres only one upside for downsizing - no need to worry about financial issues for the rest of your life.

But theres just so many disadvantages and issuse that I doubt it would get that popular like in the movie and it would probably appeal to mainly the lower income folks not those cool rich ones.

some cons on top of my head:

its irreversible(stated in the trailer) ,really big problem there.

high chance of dying, being so small you could get killed really easily , intentional or not

smaller pool of potential mate and social circle

hard to get around, seems that you are limited to the downsize city.

lack of safety, kidnapping and murder would be so easy and harder to trace

I started out liking the movie. THEN it all went downhill from there.
You use the word "concept" in reference to downsizing. Originally there seemed to BE a CONCEPT, THEN the movie went all over the place to the point that any sort of CONCEPT of ANYTHING was lost. I have no real idea what the movie was attempting to say. Frankly it just put me to sleep.
A movie that has my interest will keep me awake and keep me interested.
This movie failed after the first 30 or so minutes.

So basically, it should have been a short film or something, but it got stretched out into feature length.

The commercials made it look like a fun movie, although I did wonder where the story could go. Now I'm looking it up on MRQE and the reviews are pretty much terrible right out of the gate.

Well I guess if I see a movie this weekend, it'll be more Last Jedi.

I dont think it should have been a "short" film either.
I think it should have established what sort of film it was supposed to be, follow a course based on what it was attempting to convey; and stay the course.

A few critics liked it. Frankly I dont like some of the critics that liked it, and I can generally count on the fact that if THEY like it, I will hate it and vice versa.

Some seemed to find humor in it. Irony or veiled satire might be the point but nothing to really laugh at.

I regarded it as a veiled attempt at making typical "social statements" that are that are Hollywood popular.
If what I just said seems confusing, so was the movie; at least to me it was.

Should have been comedy Sci fi with no drama.

I was expecting so much more but that's comedy drama for you

I think they carried out the concept through the whole movie, and I kinda got what they were trying to convey. That doesn't mean that the movie wasn't a tonal mess or that the satire wasn't weak IMO. By the end it turned into another "American discovers stuff. Stuff changes his life." movie. A shame since it had the potential to be an interesting film.

Like just about all Alexander Payne movies, it's about a guy who's generally lost finally finding his humanity through the course of the movie. Think about it. Sideways, About Schmidt, Nebraska, The Descendants, The Holdovers. A guy who's kind of lost finally finding meaning in his life. I think Payne does a great job doing this, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I didnt really address the "pros and cons " subject that you mentioned.
Following a logical course, these issues are reasonably valid.
I think I would have liked it more if these were the issues that the movie presents. Unfortunately it doesnt really work that way. It choses to go off in too many directions that change the whole tone and pace of the movie as well as the direction or course that it follows.

I dont want to present spoilers although te spoilers spoil the movie as you watch it.
Some critics disagree. This is not a movie that will appeal to mass audiences.

I really liked the concept here but it seems like they had a clever idea but then had no idea what to do with it. The romance was pretty much garbage too.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/tn12vJcJawY

The reality is, these shrunken humans walk outdoors, they will be hunted and killed by a sparrow.

In the film it's suggested several times that people are downsizing ostensibly to help save the planet, but in reality they are just doing it for their own selfish reasons and to feel good about themselves. It's a satire on the environmentalist guilt-tripping of our own age.
