My 2nd favourite Lanthimos film

Something rare; I watched this with my brother! He’s a no gore, no horror, no weird shit kind a guy and after watching this he thanked me. This is something he would never have watched by himself. Thing is, I think he enjoyed it more than I did. We laughed a lot, often because of the actual wickedness of the movie but sometimes because of my brother’s reactions. I liked the look, very artsy in a beautiful kind of way. It also has good pacing, unique atmosphere and a humour about it but it was also a bit redundant, long and at times very dumb. One thing is I never thought I could come to be so annoyed by the great Mark Ruffalo. Anyways, this movie has to be experienced, it’s wild, and yes, there is a message, but it’s mostly about the voyage than the destination. I think. My rating: 7/10

Question: Aren’t Barbie and Poor things basically the same movie? Only one has more penis, boobs and vaginas than the other. Otherwise…Yeah.

Anyways, this is my 2nd favourite , after The Favourite (8/10). Funny, yes, but true.

An original and pleasantly surprising film to say the least. The story is whimsical, visually very successful, and carries a message of equality and freedom.

I really liked PT. I haven't seen The Favorite yet, I'll have to check it out this week.

Have you seen The Lobster? It's perhaps still my favorite Yorgos film but PT might replace it, it's quite funny. I think TL is a little more original than PT but it's also quite amusing.

Yeah, I hated Farrell in The lobster.

What??? I thought he was pretty good. But what did you think of the overall movie?

reply

Interesting concept, nice cinematography but slightly boring. I think I gave it 6/10.

There are certainly some interesting parallels, aren't there? I did think about Barbie during Poor Things.

In fact, immediately after having the thought, Bella said to the older lady something like 'You look interesting. I must touch your hair.' And I thought, huh, it's like the bus stop scene in Barbie... but Bella lacks Barbie's social etiquette.

Both are feminist films addressing social constructs that oppress women. Each presents a heroine striving to challenge the fundamental assumptions of patriarchal society. Both also depict love and intimacy between a man and a woman as something negative that individuals shouldn't aspire to.

Barbie is not a good movie at all. While I wasn't initially a fan of Poor Things, over time I've come to appreciate at least the film's originality and the performance of some of the actors (Stone and Dafoe). In fact, I find it better than Oppenheimer in some respects. Overall, it's been a disappointing year for movies.

I am agree with you that The Favourite was is best movie. I loved the interaction between the three main characters.
