Poptarts = "Breakfast"???

I grew up in the 80's with poptarts around but never ever considered having just them for breakfast. In my mind it was more of a "snack" or even a "dessert" item. However the whole premise of this movie is that they were conceived as an alternative to cereal as a breakfast product. How often do (or did) parents ever consider actually feeding their kids poptarts for breakfast?

Incidentally I did just buy a box after not eating poptarts in many years. I see that shrinkflation has hit even them at some point as poptarts today are markedly thinner than they were only 10 years ago.

I GREW UP IN THE 80S AND 90S....I WAS ALSO A WELFARE KID...WE HAD POP-TARTS FOR BREAKFAST OFTEN.

reply

As a welfare adult, do you still eat them?

reply

AS A NON-WELFARE ADULT I DO NOT STILL EAT THEM...TOTALLY BURNT ON THAT TASTE.

reply

I think it was sold as breakfast on the go, put them in toaster, 1 minute later you take them and go, and eat it on the way, maybe with coffee you just put in microwave, in a take away cup.

I've only ever thought of them as a breakfast item. That's what they are meant to be, as far as I know. I don't know that I've ever eaten one, though in my mind I think of them as being overly sweet, so at some point I must have had one.

They've always been a breakfast item in my house when I was growing up and for my kids when they were in school.

i have them at night now while watching a movie after my initial snacks

They were, and still are, marketed as breakfast. It's a psychological phenomenon I've always found puzzling--the way people think of things like Pop Tarts and doughnuts as breakfast, while they wouldn't regard cookies or cake the same way.

I like brown sugar and cinnamon Pop Tarts, and the chocolate ones, but I always thought of them as just a pastry snack, not breakfast. I don't eat them often anymore because I don't want to be fat (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I don't really think of donuts as a breakfast item specifically, but Pop-Tarts yes. Probably it has something to do with people associating a sugar rush with a burst of energy in the morning and, in regard to Pop-Tarts specifically, it's an easy item for parents to make for their kids while everyone is rushing around trying to get ready for work and school. Just put them in the toaster, wait a minute, and they're ready.

I certainly ate plenty for breakfast growing up.

They were breakfast in my home town.

Most of our families couldn't afford it.

Originally branded and used as a breakfast option. Only later did they decide to market them as a snack.
