Fun

We just saw this at an AMC.
It was a smaller theater, but there were about 5 empty seats.
The audience responded well with laughs and some gasps.

The sets, costumes, and production are really good. They really paid attention to details.
The acting is good for Shudder.
The story is mostly good. It has issues in the 3rd act.

3.5/5

Sounds encouraging. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Have you watched it yet?

reply

Not yet, sadly. I'll definitely post when I have. As for Ghostwatch (you mentioned it below), it's definitely of its time. I watched it when it was originally broadcast on Halloween 1992. I hoped for years they'd repeat it but of course they never did. Then a few years ago I managed to find it on a Region 0 DVD. Are you a Brit? One of the biggest things for us was the use of well-known genuine TV presenters - especially the hugely respected Michael Parkinson.

reply

No, I'm not a Brit. The cast seems well known in Ghostwatch.

reply

Yes, they were. Mike Smith and Sarah Greene were husband and wife IRL and often appeared together, and of course Craig Charles was well-known due to Red Dwarf.

reply

About Ghostwatch being "of it's time"... Late Night Withe the Devil is set in period. It is a contemporary film but artificially set in the age of Johnny Carson.

Not being British, the only presenter I recognize watching Ghostwatch is whatsisname who I know from Red Dwarf. Overall Ghostwatch seems to hold up now better than Late Night with the Devil.

reply

I agree with your rating. It's an interesting concept and is nifty and fun, but never quite reaches the level of being great.

reply

I was told to watch Ghost Watch. It's on shudder. I didn't get into it as much. I'll try again before the end of the month.

reply

Sounds like it works better on cinemas than alone at home.

reply

Maybe. I know, at home, I was tempted to give up on it after fifteen minutes of dull background at the Tonight Show clone. The effect of being trapped in your seat after going out to a theater and putting your money down might have the psychological effect of making you more determined not to feel like you have wasted time and money.

reply

Fun is a good way to describe this; for such a simple little film the characters really stuck with me, especially the skeptic and sidekick.
