Bill Maher Blasts ‘Barbie,’ Calls Movie “Preachy, Man-Hating, And A Zombie Lie”

Uber-Woke Deadline commenters are TRIGGERED! "must bash old white guy with incorrect thoughts"

What, you ask, is a “Zombie Lie?”

Maher defines it as, “Something that never was true, but certain people refuse to stop saying it (tax cuts for the rich increase revenues, e.g.); OR something that USED to be true but no longer is, but certain people pretend it’s still true.”

In any case, Maher’s gist is that Barbie, with a main character who fights the patriarchy, is actually a few years out of date because the power structure of the world we live in is “not really any longer deserving of the word ‘patriarchy.'”

For proof, he offers the fact that the Mattel board is actually made up of 5 women and 7 men, not all men, as the film posits.

“Truth is, I’m not the one who’s out of step – I’m living in the year we’re living in,” writes Maher. “Barbie is fun, I enjoyed it – but it IS a #ZombieLie. And people who don’t go along with zombie lies did not take some red pill – just staying true to CURRENT reality. Let’s live in the year we’re living in!”

Mattel board is actually made up of 5 women and 7 men, not all men, as the film posits.

So the movie premise of real world patriarchy was a made up lie, used to justify the narrative.

I thought that only happened in politics.

I now understand a bit about the "Zombie Lie".

All i heard was a bunch of boring leftwing "buzzwords".

reply

YOU SHOULD LEARN MORE WORDS THEN I GUESS.

reply

Thanks for sharing. Love the idea of "zombie lies". Makes sense in the crazy world we live in...

IS Bill Marher saying that this movie's "Real World" Doesn't reflect the ACTURAL "Real World". What Women on the Board of Mattel. I am shocked. Next your going tell me that men make up 78.7% of all suicides. Maybe they were all living on the beach like Ken.

reply

THE "REAL WORLD" IN THE BARBIE MOVIE IS NOT THE REAL WORLD...IT IS A SATIRIC VERSION OF THE REAL WORLD.

reply

There are satires, and there are lies, what was in the movie was clearly a lie.

reply

🤣YOU GUYS SURE ARE PROUD TO BE WRONG.

reply

If we were wrong you would not have been so desperately arguing otherwise.

reply

WTF?...LOL...DESPERATE?...SOMEBODY IS CONFUSED.

I LIKE THE MOVIE...I LIKE ELVIS' CHANNEL...END OF STORY.

reply

Nobody denies you liked this movie. Like I said before it sucked up to women relentlessly.

reply

NO...NO IT DIDN'T...PERHAPS WATCH THE FILM...OR PAY BETTER ATTENTION?...IT IS THE BARBIE MOVIE...BARBIE'S WORLD...A WORLD OF YOUNG GIRL MAKE BELIEVE...BUT THE FILM CLEARLY STATES THAT NEITHER KEN'S VERSION NOR THE ORIGINAL BARBIE WORLD ARE CORRECT. IN ANY CASE...THERE SEEMS TO BE A LOGIC DISCONNECT WHEN IT COMES TO THIS MOVIE AND PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF...WHO CLEARLY DID NOT UNDERSTAND IT OR DID NOT SEE IT...YET SPEND SO MUCH TIME RAILING AGAINST IT.

reply

When Ken was in the real world, he talked to a supposedly "real" man, who asserted that the real world was still a Patriachy.

Bill is correct. THe message of the movie is a zombielie.

reply

IT ISN'T THE REAL WORLD...IT IS A SATIRIC OVER THE TOP VERSION OF THE REAL WORLD...IT FUNCTIONS AS THE OPPOSITE OF BARBIELAND...NEITHER WORLD HAS IT RIGHT AND NEITHER WORLD FIGURES IT OUT ENTIRELY BY THE END.

reply

Do you not believe that the real world is a Patrarchy? And that women do need to fight against their dominate by men, even today?

reply

IT ISN'T BLACK AND WHITE...WOMEN HAVE MUCH MORE POWER THESE DAYS...AND IN CERTAIN ARENAS THEY ARE CLOSE TO EQUAL...BUT MANY AREAS/JOBS/WHATEVER STILL LEAN MORE IN THE PATRIARCHY DIRECTION...IT'S MUCH BETTER TODAY...BUT NOT PERFECT...THIS OF COURSE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FILM AS THE FILM PAINTS AN OVER THE TOP MAN-CENTRIC REAL WORLD TO MIRROR THE OVER THE TOP BARBIE-CENTRIC BARBIE WORLD.

reply

The film paints the world as a Patriarchy. This is the standard lib world view and claim.

The question is, is that True or False.

Do you believe that MEN as a group, control the world and use that power to advance their interests and keep women "down"?

Do you think Biden, as the most powerful man in the nation is using his power, to keep women down?

Because if you don't then the messaging is wrong and bad. And if you do, then it is good and true.

IS JOE BIDEN USING HIS POWER TO KEEP WOMEN DOWN?

in the world of the feminists, tath is supposedly how it works.

Truth is, I’m not the one who’s out of step – I’m living in the year we’re living in

Strong Principal Skinner 'Am I so out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong' vibes.

No disrespect to him -- he's as entitled to his opinion as anyone -- but it really doesn't matter what Bill Maher thinks about the Barbie movie. That's not an interesting or salient question. The interesting question is 'Does the Barbie film resonate with its target audience -- and, if so, why?'

Evidently, the satire (exaggerated, because that's how satire works) does feel at least somewhat relevant to a lot of women and girls in the audience -- and it's not a small audience either -- so it might be wiser and more grown-up to listen to their thoughts and experiences instead of just barking at them that they're wrong.

'My shoes are too tight.'
'What are you talking about. My shoes fit me just fine.'

That things have got better isn't an excuse for not further improving.

Bill Maher has turned into a cranky bigot and a grumpy old man. He has more in common with conservatives than liberals these days. He's basically Archie Bunker now. I wouldn't be surprised if he yells at kids to get off his lawn.

The only liberal beliefs he still holds are the ones he publicly invested his identity in as a young comic and can't separate from them without losing his credibility.

reply

Look like yourself, you smear the man, call him names, because he said something literally true?

I don't have a high opinion of the guy, but you look a lot uglier than him.

By the way liberals and conservatives are alike, together they are called "the establishment", because they both work for billionaires, just different factions. Just because they keep arguing that does not mean they are any different. Just because 2 criminal gangs are fighting, that does not mean they are not the same.

reply

After the demise of Rush Limbaugh, Bill Maher, IMO, is shifting to fill the void, and has thus tilted from Liberal to sometimes-Conservative, and I actually agree with him here.

I am surprised Mattel allowed themselves to be portrayed as a "white male patriarchy" with 12 white male directors. I understand satire, but that's really just an excuse.

Airplane, Naked Gun, Hot Shots, Young Doctors in Love, Police Squad!. THAT is satire.
