When (if ever) did ''The Walking Dead'' lose its spark for you?

The 'if ever' part being to emphasize this isn't a hate thread . Some might very well think TWD as it is currently is as good or even better than it was at its start.

At the start I was a very eager watcher. I recently dug out my S1 and 2 DVDs after some years and remember why I liked it so much at the start. I continued watching until almost through S6, then I gave up. In all truthfulness though I'd been going through the motions in viewing for quite a while. I even didn't finish S5 fully at the time and caught up much later.

So...I guess for my money I'd probably not go beyond S4. The rinse-repeat cycle of moving to a new location when the last gets overrun or they have to face some cartoonish villain was what really killed it for me though. I think at the start, the walkers themselves being the main threat, there still being some family bonds which made the characters more relatable, before the show's general formula set in and there was still some sense of the unknown and so maybe some hope of some kind of resolution etc. was when the show was best personally. Also, Andrea and Dale both rocked .

When they got to Alexandria, that's where I fell off. And I never bothered or felt the need to catch up. The show just lost its edge for me. The first few seasons, up to like maybe seasons 4 or 5, the show used to excite me & keep me on the edge.

Then when they got to Alexandria, I noticed just how repetitive it really is. Just felt like I was watching a melodrama. They find a new place, argue with each other, discuss the morality of things, meet the new big bad & then rinse & repeat. Oh yeah, some zombies in there too, sometimes.

Also, they focus way too much on unnecessary things & drag out storylines for way too long. Was looking forward to seeing Negan since the third or fourth season but it took way too damn long. After the prison arc, the amount of episodes of just characters walking was too damn high!

When Negan finally arrived, I just found myself not caring for the show anymore.

Season 3 is when it went from being an actual survival show to a cheesy comic flick

If I had to sit through season 3 in real time with the Governor arc, I likely would have quit on this show then. As it is, I started binge watching at the start of season 4 and was able to make my way through that pretty quickly.

This and Game of Thrones are the only 2 shows I've actually ever waited for and watched every new episode as it airs. Mainly because I know a lot of people that like to talk about it so I have to in order to avoid spoilers.

But this show definitely would be a hell of a lot better to just binge

After catching up in Season 4, I also made sure to watch this live, just so I could partake in the discussion on imdb.

It devolved quickly to some level of hate-watching, as I came to imdb to see if other viewers saw it as preposterous as I did. Some discussions were so classic. The zombie parade made for good times.

It happened in little bits and then all at once.

Season 5 had some of the earliest tedium for me. Just kind of a “this is all sort of feeling like the same thing” feeling. Season 6 had more of that, but felt slightly more un-interesting. Season 7 and Negan actually revitalized my interest in the show again. I LOVE that season. Season 8 was a bit of a disappointment at first. It was just a little too all over the place and there was the stupid decision to kill off Coral. But the season got better towards around the last few episodes. Season 9 is REALLY the point of no return for me. That’s really where my interest plummeted to zero and pretty much has stayed there.

I have kept watching it all anyways, because I guess I can’t help it. But I do feel a little bit (VERY little) rewarded by some pretty decent individual episodes here and there, when theres a good stand alone (sort of) episode.

It never had any spark for me. Zombies are beyond stupid and dull.
