Is Adding Florence Pugh To The Timothy Charmolet A Step Too Far?

I'm just rewatching the first one and Timothy Charmolet is pretty hard going. Especially for Duncan, the Aquaman chap, whom he clearly has a very strong homoeroric attraction too.

Anyway, from what I recall, I did quite enjoy the first one. He was distracting yes, due to his somewhat dweeby frame, not seemingly particularly action hero-ish. But overall, it was a reasonably good film.

However, I heard someone the other day questioning whether the addition of Pugh, to the Charmolet and Zandaya, is simply going to push this too far into Twilight territory - i.e. a "young adults" lite film, rather than the Space Opera epic you'd hope for.

And now, rewatching the first one, I can't help but watch Charmolet in that light now - rather than just homoeroric - and I do have some concern for Part 2...

That's an excellent point you've made OP.

And here's another one:-

How come all the Harkonnens are bald?

In the original film they were all Ginger. So what's being said here? Is Hollywood laughing in the face of Gingers and baldies?

In these diverse, all inclusive, don't make fun of anyone / group times, it's like they are the last ethnic groups its okay to mock. The gingers and the slap heads. But is that right? Or is this hypocrisy of the highest order being shown here?

She probably has about 25 minutes of screen time and no it would be nothing like moonlight because as in the books she is his bride in name only

Afraid it will turn you on?

What? Seeing Florence Pugh? 🤔

reply

The homoeroticism you mentioned.

reply

But I already mentioned that in OP. Distracting but still watchable. The question was whether Pugh will push it too fat into young adult territory...

Just bros being bros. Why you got to make it into something more?

reply

Don't get me wrong, there nothing wrong with showing that homoeroric bonding between two good male friends. For example, I'm sure we all enjoyed the relationships between Dilon and Dutch in Predator or Rocky and Apollo in Rocky III say.

But this was a bit different due to the slender, almost feminine, dweeby frame of Charmolet. When he was looking up at the muscle strapped frame of Aquaman, you can't help but see a young boy looking to be dominated by an overpowering superior athlete.

So in that sense, this generation's "bro-manace" is slightly different to that of earlier big screen examples and adds to that sense of it being a young adult film I was mentioning.

reply

Yeah you’re just trolling at this point.

reply

How could you actually read the previous post and come out with this garbage?

I mean, I literally took the time to expand upon the theme of Charmolet's non action hero physique, in comparison to classic silver screen bro-manaces, to show how this film leans into young adult territory (I mean no one is watching Stallone and Weathers and thinking, this might be.a kids movie) and you just respond with this crap...

Why even bother? What's the point?

reply

You’ve doubled down on your original garbage post. Which I did reply to btw

reply

Yeah but why dismiss the very clearly stated point re the differences between Dune and previous bro-manace featuring films as "trolling"?

That's why I dismissed your comment as "garbage" (although I do appreciate your - almost bro-mantic in itself - reuse of the word...).

And no. You did not reply to the OP.

reply

k......yes I did but wherever youre one of those people that get mad about "woke". grow up.

reply

Look back up through the thread. You did not reply to the OP.

I literally have no idea why you're talking about "woke" now. How exactly am I getting mad about it and what does that have to do with Charmolet having a skinny frame and Pugh pushing this into young adult territory? 🤔 😂

Looks like, in addition to "trolling", we can add "woke" to the list of words you don't know the meaning of...
