Where do they Shit and when do they Shower?!...

-- There doesn't seem to be a good amount of plumbing on the side of Arrakis where the Natives live. There were a lot of people in those caves. Where are they all shitting?! And without trees, it's rather difficult to make toilet paper. Not sure how the natives are handling that part of it either.

-- So the Natives live in a humid desert but they don't have running water?! They NEVER shower?! And Willy Wonka banged that one girl?! Grosssss!! There was like 20 years of musk underneath all those clothes!

According to the book, Fremen typically relaxed stillsuit discipline when indoors. The film neglected to show this. Yeah, but I bet the suits reeked after a while. :)

The Fremen were not a low tech people, they managed to manufacture their own stuff. They probably had facilities just like the others (Atreides, Harkonnens) we did not see.

Were did they poop on Gilligans Island? We never saw the outhouse!
How about all those desert worlds in Star Wars? How do you grow food without rain?

reply

They used moisture traps. There was only a little bit about how it was done in the film. The Fremen expected to walk about in the daytime without stillsuits in 300 to 500 years.

So, I guess you were OK with all of the other "sci-fi" stuff?

Take a breath, bud.

It's a freakin' movie, FFS.

Pretty easy to hide waste in the sand, and there’s plenty of it! Where do you think the spice comes from?

reply

they dont shower. that is the point.

It's a fair question.

And without the possibility of any bidets being installed, one can't help but wonder how any French Fremen would have dealt with a non clean exit scenario? Not a pleasant prospect, given that harsh sandy environment...

Q. (ChatGPT query) in Frank Herbert's Dune, hypothetically where do the fremen Shit and when do they Shower?
A. "In Frank Herbert's Dune, the Fremen are a desert-dwelling people who highly conserve water due to the extreme aridity of their environment.

In terms of hygiene, the Fremen use something called a stillsuit. A stillsuit is a full-body suit that captures and recycles the body's moisture, including sweat, breath, and waste products. This makes showering unnecessary, as these suits cleanse and recycle the body's sweat back into drinkable water. Any excrement is also processed within the Stillsuit.

Regarding defecation, the Fremen would eliminate their body's waste within their stillsuits. The suit's design allows the waste to be processed and reclaimed, leaving a residue which could potentially be used for other purposes.

In essence, the Fremen have adapted to their harsh environment, allowing them to maintain their hygiene and eliminate waste in ways that conserve precious resources."
