Civil Bore

Why did the trailers make this out to be a visceral action packed war film when in in reality it’s a road trip movie with maybe 20 minutes total action.

Unfortunate as I was really excited about it.

Completely agree! They cut it that way because they knew not a lot of people would watch the bore fest if it was presented accurately - a bunch of journalists sitting around talking about the burden of their profession and showing how war sucks for 109 minutes.

Thanks for this warning. I was wondering about this.... is the trailer truthful.... something felt off to me.
Sounds like no reason to see it in imax. Will wait for my streamer to pick it up

There is literally zero reason to watch this film on an IMAX screen. There are like 3 action scenes. A shoot out near the beginning that includes images of the macabre in previous wars/conflicts, the sniper scene, and the white house siege. Otherwise, its a road trip across the east coast and camping scenes at night where the male character just gets drunk and the two women talk about journalism. I cant express how let down I was by this film. It commits my cardinal sin of a movie - making me check my watch to estimate how long is left.

Lastly, before anyone slams my ass saying "stick to marvel movies" or something. I love A24 films. I just dislike the movie because it relies on a bait and switch trailer. If the trailer was truthful in that it was a road trip movie with journalists, I wouldnt have wasted 40 bucks to see it with my spouse.

I wasn't bored and I looked at it as a warning of what the atrocities would look like if there was a Second Civil War.

the first half, yes - action does pick up in the 2nd half, but then it gets so ridiculous that it's basically a satire, despite the actors doing their best to act shocked, distraught and experiencing extreme anguish.

The trailer is very misleading people must ask for refunds
It's one of the worst movies of the last 20 years that presents itself as an action packed apocalyptic movie Roland Emmerich-M.Bay style but its an artsy fartsy typical A24 borefest

Yes it's an Alex Garland film. He doesn't do mainstream friendly stuff. I got caught before with some of his movies (Annihilation/Ex Machina). The trailers for his movies never show what the film is really like.

I was chuckling to myself when I saw the trailer for Civil War. Showing Jesse Plemons acting sinister. Not surprised people are feeling misled.

duh. because they know nobody would want to watch two vaginas talk about their feelings? that's basically 50% of this movie. every interesting scene this entire movie had was shown in the 2 min trailer. they made it look like jesse plemons was a main antagonist, he was in the movie for 3 mins.
