No English audio ! that sucks

why are all the good family movies always in a foreign language ? thats stupid. The least the Norwegian people could have done is a english voice over !

reply

Dubbing in the USA must be really horrible, according to most comments here.
In Germany it was a real art form up to the mid-90s - and I dare say that some films even got more intense by good voice-acting.

Anyway, this particular movie really needs to be seen in it's original.
Pseudo-Documentaries like BLAIR WITCH, REC or CLOVERFIELD simply lose all their attempted authenticity when you hear voices "pretending".

The only trick that might work would be a sort of over-dubbing, like you hear in TV documentaries whenever foreign people are interviewed.

But subs are definitely the safest way to keep the authentic illusion alive.

My DVD has only English and Thai dubbing. I think the English was well done as it all made sense and they used the Troll names and city names. I felt sorry for the Trolls that had to be killed.

The disc I got from Netflix has English dubbing. Thomas is shy and reserved but the English dubbing makes him sound loud and a bit obnoxious. It clearly doesn't match up with the original Norweigian.

did it ever occur to you that the universe is not intended to serve the needs of americants?

reply

"Americants"? Really? First off UK, Canada, Australia, Bahamas, Bermuda, Guam, New Zealand, Jamaica, Ireland, British Virgin Islands, among many other countries use the English language as their primary language, and many others like India for one English is an official language as well. So, no, putting it English wouldn't just be for Americans, no t by the way, it would be for anyone that speaks English.

That being said, I don't know why anyone would want to ruin a great film like this by watching it in English, yes I realize I complained about your response, however your claim that it would only be for Americans was wrong. "Foreign" films are best to be watched as they were made, "foreign". Whats the point of watching a Norwegian movie if the voices aren't Norwegian? Even if they were English speaking Norwegians it's not the same. I don't watch Jet Li movie in English, I won't watch a Norwegian one in English either, it's not how the movie was made to be watched.

reply

It's not in a foreign language if you're Norwegian.

I don't mind English dubbing in kung fu films for example.....even the Chinese dub can sound a little OTT imo.

reply

Get the dvd, it has the original audio and a dubbed english audio :)

if all else fails, read the subtitles, i assume you have the ability to read

reply

It's pretty sad to see such a ridiculous post like this... and it's even sadder to know that this person is an American w/o any knowledge of knowing them.... why? b/c it's so typical of an American.....
So the only thing we can really gather and learn about their species is that they've never learned to read subs..... hahaha nah... but it is sad that ppl can be so closed minded.
To view a movie w/o the original audio is to take away half the magic and experience of that movie....
So sad.

reply

You know what's even sadder than that? Judging 300+ million people based on the comments of one person on the internet.

So sad.
