Oscar Nomination for Tom Cruise?

I know its very early but with such strong initial critic reviews and praise for Tom, do we think there's a chance Tom Cruise receives an Oscar nomination for his performance? I mean, he is due right?

reply

They gave John Wayne one for True Grit. Let's see if this movie compares with that one.

reply

And they gave Paul Newman one for Color of Money -- a sequel that came out long after the original (and co-starred Tom Cruise).

Wouldn't you need to actually see his performance in the movie before talking about awards?

I mean the movie is only available to cinemas at the end of the month. Did you attend an early screening?

reply

The film locations are comparable from the trailer to the locations of True Grit.It might go down to whatever else movie is on the list.I don't thinl Ambulance or Doctor Strange has a chance.

reply

I'm just basing my comment on the initial praise for his performance from critics. Having read a few of them, many of them state Tom gives a very good performance. But given that it is only May, there are obviously many more months of worthy Oscar performances to come.

reply

It might be up to him and Austin Butler in Elvis. Jurassic,Thor, and Black Adam won't get it.Elvis is also Tom Hanks but I don't see him getting a Oscar for that movie part.

reply

Sorry I don't understand your comment...

I think Tom Cruise's only other completion is Elvis. Is that though an Elvis movie or a Colonel Tom movie?

reply

Yeah I said it's still early in the year. By the end of the year we'll see where he stands.

reply

I think the chances are pretty low. Cruise's best performance I think was in "A Few Good Men", he did not receive a nomination for that, I doubt he will receive one for this movie, which is clearly a mindless blockbuster as shallow as it could get. I think all Cruise does in it is to play cool.

reply

And all John Wayne did was play himself for the Oscar in True Grit.
“He caused absolute chaos in Windsor because he decided to walk to the studio,” said Schofield.

“So the police then obviously had to do serious crowd control at the drop of a hat, but he met everybody.”

However, Schofield was nonetheless effusive in his praise of Cruise, whom he described as a “class act”.

At some point the Academy will find a way to get a long-time actor who plays by the rules an award.

Paging Samuel L. Jackson.

It's Tom being Tom which is great but I'm not sure it's Oscar level, I'd like to think the film will get something though like vfx or sound.

reply

John Wayne was John Wayne in True Grit.

reply

Back when begin white was enough to get you a nomination ;)

It's a good performance and will be popular but not Oscar level Tom has had better roles A Few Good Men, Rain Man to name a couple.

reply

John Wayne and Lee Marvin had better roles in other movies also till they won for the movie they did to get the Oscar.

reply

Lee Marvin in Cat Ballou

They need the ratings to be legitimate.
