He has really grown on me as a character. He seems to have a genuine heart for his people. I also think he's sexy as hell, and I hope Cady ends up with him.

I don't care for his character at all. He's a good villain, and adds a lot to the show; I'm just not sympathetic to the character in any way, shape or form. He seems like a greedy opportunist using his people for personal gain. I think the final season will reveal that Walt has been right about him all along.
The portrayal is great, though. This is the first role I've seen A Martinez play where I didn't think of him as Cruz Castillo. And that's pretty bad given that Santa Barbara went of the air 20+ years ago. I'm guessing it's the goatee.
I like him as a character but he's still way too scary for most smart women to want to tangle with. His speaking manner oozes menace and superiority.
