Wolf Creek vs Wolf Creek 2

Original versus sequel. Which one is your favorite? Wolf Creek or Wolf Creek 2?

I'm a huge fan of the original...
when i talk to people about this film there main complaint is always the same that the movie was a real slow starter but I always felt that this is what made the events that take place to be all the more horrific.. Those girls were well developed characters which is something lost in the horror genre and then to watch Mick just methodically butcher them made it far more terrifying than your run of the mill slasher or torture porn flick...
Wolf Creek 2 had none of that just got right down to business and the pace never stops....
I still give the edge to the Wolf Creek but it is one of the rare instances that the sequel holds up as a equal film. it was very entertaining but I am not sure I buy the ending.

I agree with everything you said. I originally saw Wolf Creek back when it first came out back I'm 05 (I think). I remember buying a copied dvd even though I hadn't heard of it. I was pleasantly surprised but completely forgotten about it until I saw a part 2 was out. I just watched both back to back with my gf. She usually hates these movies but she really enjoyed both of these. The sequel definitely is atleast on par with part 1. Which hardly ever happens.

The first one.

I really enjoyed the slow build up, the "real" characters and the suspense and terror the atmosphere created. More then just a "horror" film, it was an effective and mysterious thriller.
It was a well made flick and one that brings up many questions and theories.

The sequel was bland, trite and nothing but a poor excuse for a sequel.
As a horror film in it's own right, it's pretty good. Just give Mick a hockey mask, a machete and change his name to Jason and you have a good Friday The 13th sequel.
But as a sequel to WC, it just missed the mark by miles.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

I agree and as much as I like the second one, I think Mclean focused too much on the gore and shock factor and seemed to be more interested in showing kills with cool special effects than actually making a good horror tale like the first. I hear there's a third one in the works and I wish it will focus on less blood and more of Mick's backstory. Yeah, we see that he's a brutal serial killer, but why? When? How and where? Who is he exactly? What makes him tick? Why does he kill so much and why does he seem to favor killing women and foreigners? So many unanswered questions that weren't touched in the sequel and I found it a little disappointing, to be honest.

Both really good, but the first is my fav, but i have watched it umpteen times so if i do the same with the 2nd one then it will probably be hard to chose.

after revisiting the first films and watching them back to back the first one is flat out the better of the two but for a sequel part two is entertaining but there not in the same league...
I felt like the car chase scene took the whole thing down a notch..they should leave that kind of stuff to Vin Diesil or jason stathom..

Two different style of movie I liked the first a lot but found the second below average

The first one was a much better film. It had a gritty realism and was far more atmospheric and shocking in its delivery. I genuinely cared about those 3 tourist characters and their fate.

The sequel was standard comedy horror which was way OTT and destroyed any hope of credibility, although it will probably appeal more to the American market.

First one is better hands down. Didn't enjoy the 2nd one that much

I love both Wolf Creek and Wolf Creek 2. Wolf creek 1 was a bit slow pased, but thats because no one know what kind of movie this was or Who Mick Taylor was. In Wolf Creek 2 we know Who he is and the killing and exitement starts early. I have to say im a big fan of the new sequel and dont understand why people are complaining about it! I can't choose my fav out of them. If you have not seen any of the Wolf Creek movies i recommend you to watch both of them if you like gory and somewhat scary good budget horror movies. Great photography!
