Would Video Game Adaptations Do Better as TV/Mini Series?

This was a question that instantly popped into my mind as I exited Assassin's Creed (6.8/10).

I'm curious as to what you all think about the idea of a video game being transferred onto the silverscreen. Do you think that video game adaptations are fine in theaters? Or do you think that these adaptations would succeed better on television/Netflix?

Also, if any of you could adapt a video game into a live adaptation, which game (franchise) would you all want to adapt?

There are already some critically acclaimed TV series based on computer games. The new Netflix series Skylanders Academy is already critically acclaimed.

I haven't seen the film. But as a fan of the franchise. I've always said that the best thing they could do is take each game and make it into a 8-10 hour episodic series. Given the premise of the game, two factions fighting for world domination across the chessboard that is history, they would draw in a lot of viewers. Especially given the popularity of historical costume dramas, along with the intrigue. The show would be a great seller in many tv markets.

"Queens Conquer"

Yeah it would. Especially AC 3

That was the same thought come to my head after watching the end i really think it will be a LEGENDARY serie for HBO budget.

I didn't even think about HBO; they make quality television/mini series, and Assassin's Creed could actually thrive on HBO.

HBO, FX, or Netflix seem like areas where video game adaptations could succeed without (much) censorship or limitations.

Yeah I agree. Give me 12 episodes of a Vikings/ Game of Thrones/ Spartacus style Assassins show set primarily in the time period and not constantly blabbering about the modern Abstergo nonsense and I can guarantee it would be top of the charts stuff. Oh and make it rated TV-MA for Christ sakes. This PG13 crap is pathetic.

The good thing about tv series is that it allows more room to compress all the essential plots from the game but the problem I see is the amount of time(mostly weekly) we have to wait for each episodes considering we already knew the plot, it's not worth the wait.

My suggestion is that game adaptations should be animated either 3d or 2d.

there's already "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist" which is good.
