Massively disappointed

Ok before I start, please don't bother with the insultive pathetic and demeaning comments, telling me I'm a dumbass or that i should stick to playing Mario or Sonic simply because you are one of the millions who are in love with game and think that because someone has a different view on the game than you, that you are right and are a member of a far superior race of beings. (to put it short, i CBA arguing with people who hide behind a keyboard and hurl insults at other people to make themselves feel like The Hulk) If you've nothing sensible or productive to add, then please don't comment.

I absolutely love games with good stories, I love survival RPG's and some of my all times faves are The Fallout series, Resident Evil 4, Uncharted, Splinter cell, Dead Island, Dying light etc but for some reason, i never played this game and only recently got a copy bought for me as a gift.

I have been playing it now for about 90 minutes or so and i have to ask, does it get any better? Or is this as good as it gets?

I'm finding it a real slog to get through, it's slow paced, almost as slow as Heavy rain which i turned off before the end through sheer boredom. There seems to be very little to do. So far I've sat though countless cut scenes, walked through about 5 dark and empty buildings, walked through a few empty plant covered streets and strangled a coupled of "infected" There has been no real action to speak of, no horror, no puzzles to solve. The computer AI is terrible, everytime i try to walk through a door the AI character seems to stand in the doorway blocking me from moving and the player movement speed is akin to that of a snail, even when sprinting your character is slow, it can take an age to simply get from point A to point B because of how slow moving your avatar is. Surely the highest rated game of all time on IMDB can't be just this?

Is it worth playing on with it or after an hour and a half of playing should I just not bother? I want to play a game where there's things to do, puzzles to solve, fights to be had etc If this game is simply a series of cut scenes an a few walking about moments like the Tell tale game series then it really isn't for me and i can pop my copy of The Witcher 3 in instead. Games are meant to be played after all, If I wanted a slow survival story with not much else to do, I'd rent out a good film.

Any sensible advice is welcome but please, leave the keyboard macho fan worship stuff at home. Thanks.

"Hasta la vista, baby."

The reason why I have played this game through a number of times (and still do from time to time) is because it's like watching a really good movie, a movie that you are playing. It's not an action-oriented shoot em up zombie type of game, it's more story-driven. The character development is superb and how the story unfolds is very captivating.

I still enjoy games like Doom, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat and others but this is a game that you play because of the story.

Victims, aren't we all?

It's like playing a telltale game, with better combat, more shooting, gather supplies, us the supplies to survive, and upgrade to increase your survival. And that's right about it. Minor point the beginning.

I'd say 9/10. Uncharted 2 is just slightly better though (9.5/10)

Why do you mention Mario in your post?
Mario games are historical video games, most of them absolute masterpieces that changed the industry time and time again.

Last of Us is a generic "cinematic experience".
