So Ungrateful

I know the character is meant to be distant, but it just irked me so much how ungrateful she seemed to everyone who was looking out for her, like the photographer and the aboriginal elder. I think the movie would have had more impact if she seemed like she grew as a person, but it honestly seemed like the entire experience led nowhere, quite literally.

I'm not sure what to make of this comment. Are you criticizing Robyn...the real life one? If so it is what it is and maybe she really didn't act as grateful as you'd wish her to act. Maybe she didn't grow as a person as you think she should have.

It certainly makes little sense to criticize the movie or the character in the movie since it's based on a true story with a real person, who was there when the movie was made and could've had a say in how Mia portrayed her. The story is the story of her trek as it happened. It's not a lesson in how she should have behaved but a story of how she did behave.

For my part I saw growth and gratitude in her reserved mannerisms.

In the book, she's even less appealing than in the movie, and she wrote it herself! Sorry, but there's no excuse for treating people like s---.

It wasn't that she was ungrateful, but she always wanted to go on the journey herself and the photographer was an unnecessary evil, and while he was nice enough he did have the personality of a landmower and would go on and on like one as well as soon as he opened his mouth... Which he did alot.

As far as Mr Eddy goes she showed him plenty of gratitude and even stood up for him when that racist idiot who wanted to snap pics of them got too much, so she definitly appreciated him being around as he was very much apart of the land.

I can agree that I wish the ending had more of a emotional impact though, but overall it was still a stellar film.

Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?

She chose to live deliberately, on her own, to experience a solemn journey. She had her own direction. Often those that are highly driven and motivated aren't the most personable people. Being kind to strangers was not something on her agenda.
