The one unforgivable stupid plot hole that taints the entire movie.

When Ethan Hawke and family lock down for the purge... it's all good... then the black dude comes wandering down the street and Ethan Hawke's kid goes and opens the door for him to come in the house. So stupid.

Apparently, the special lock-down units don't have a child-protective cover on the switch TO OPEN THE DOOR! Give me a break. You pay millions of dollars for a top of the line security unit and you just push a button on the main panel to override your entire system??

Not to mention the kid no doubt knows how dangerous that night is... so what? Was he planning on rescuing everyone? I couldn't even pay attention after that because the entire family deserved to die after that point for raising one stupid idiot for a kid.

So true. There are so many things wrong with this movie it hurts my head. But largely the whole mess hinges on the biggest plot device: the inexplicable empathy shown by Charlie to the stranger. Other than a few vague curious questions by Charlie to his parents the movie never tries to establish his disconnection with the popular "purge culture" nor his motivation to place a stranger's life above the life of his family.

Watching now on FXX. This movie sucks ass. The entire neighborhood should be killed in an airstrike just for being in a stupid movie.

Every movie ever made has to have a moment when the out of the ordinary occurs and the characters are thrust into an adventure.

This is the very essence of what a movie is. That's why you get the first 30 minutes of everyday life and the last 30 minutes of the new normal. The hour in between those two is why we're here. Something very strange happened to this person and here's how it went down.

Your movie would have them watching PurgeFlix all night comfortably sipping Purge Tea wrapped in a Purge Snuggie. Not very fitting for a movie.

So yeah. Something is gonna go way wrong in just about every movie. That's why it's a movie.

The daughter hated her dad and thought he was an *beep* Which he kind of was. In other words, she was a normal teenage girl.

The boy was obviously mental. Living in a pro homicidal society might do that to you, but I suspect it was more of a commentary on parenting. The parents seemed to ignore him and he had no idea what the right thing to do was.

Cercei Lanister was the only normal person in the movie. THAT was what I found unbelievable. Why is she totally normal when everyone else is so weird? but I guess it's just a role reversal for them.

*Here's a ****in' spoiler: Everybody dies.*

There not being some sort of weird lock on the buttons because you think there should be is not a plot hole. A character doing something you don't agree with is not a plot hole.

Hail to the king, baby.

Sorry to break it to you - you're the dumb one.

First of all, the security system required a pass code. The kid knew it because his father didn't think he couldn't be trusted with it. Hardly a system design flaw.

Second, the kid let in the stranger because he was a human being. He wasn't an 'idiot'. He had compassion.

If your idea of intelligent behavior is letting other people die while you do nothing, then that kid is worth immeasurably more as a man than you are.
