Riley and her friends blast past the sands of Dune in just two weekends, highest grossing film of 2024

‘Inside Out 2’ is the Highest-Grossing Film of 2024 Globally After Just Two Weekends

Can you feel it? There’s a new No. 1 film of 2024 around the world.

Inside Out 2 — the Pixar Animation Studios film, which brings audiences back into the mind of Riley as she deals with a host of new emotions as a teenager — has made $728.6 million worldwide so far after two weekends of release.

That means that after two weekends in theaters, Inside Out 2 is now the highest-grossing film of 2024 worldwide.

The box office achievement followed a massive second weekend for the film in which Inside Out 2 brought in $101 million domestically. That makes Inside Out 2 only the seventh film in history to make $100 million in its second weekend. It dropped just 35% from its a record-breaking opening two weekends ago.

Inside Out 2 also had the best second weekend ever for an animated film and the best second weekend percentage drop for any film to open over $150 million.

Inside Out 2 has also been a big hit with critics. The film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with critics praising the film’s visuals, cast, and clever storytelling. It also received an “A” CinemaScore and a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 96%.

Dune was boring, plain and dull looking.
I'm glad better movies are coming out.

reply

Dune II was a downgrade from the first movie. Very dull and the ending felt rushed. They also couldn't help turning Chani into "strong women".

reply

I liked it, and thought it was quite cinematic,

but yes, they could have handled Chani a bit better and the ending did feel rushed.

Inside Out two, probably is has much more mass market appeal and could easily be a better movie.

reply

Yeah we all know you wanted Chani to be a complete Damsel in distress. Oh and man look an interracial couple yuck! I am surprised you enjoyed it. Isn't that wokeness? Zendaya also must be there for political reasons right? Woke nonsense alert!

reply

In the book, If I recall correctly, there was none of her whining about "controlling her people" and certainly she was able to accept the need of the political marraige and not storm off.

The way that the modern left is afraid of blended families or men having extra-marital affairs, is very strange.

There was instead quite a bit of oddly eugenic sounding discussion of the freman and the Sardaukar being inherently superior to other fighters.

reply

The left afraid of blended families? No it's the right who moans about interracial relationships. Wait the left bring afraid of affairs? I thought that was a good thing to be afraid of? I mean you are all about the family model right? Aren't affairs damaging to the family structure?

reply

IN the real world, affairs break up families and homes and hurt people.

IN the context of this sci fi fiction, the political marriage freed Chani's people from a very brutal imperialism.

Yet, instead of being happy and supportive of it, she stormed off in a huff.

That was something modern hollywood put into the story, I do not recall anything of that from the book.

reply

So it's ok if it's in a fictional film then?

Um she's in love with him! Characters on stories never can't see the greater good? They never can't see the big picture and act on emotion? Sounds like that's storytelling to me.

The movie doesn't need to coincide 100% to the book. Liberations get taken and it was the same case with the Lord of the rings movies.

reply

1. No, if there is a real life situation where a political marraige would save the lives of millions and free my people from oppression, at the cost of an extra marital relationship, I would support it.

2. And the "liberation" that modern hollywood took, was to have Chani storm off in a huff. Which would be fine, except that it was so clearly the viewpoint of the modern hollywood writer and not the tough as nails fremen woman, Chani.

reply

Easy to say when you aren't in the situation. Chani is young. Are young people sheets reasonable? You are saying that as a middle aged man.

Yeah it strengthens the character in my book. It shows proof characters can be selfish or flawed. Dennis Villeneuve knows how to do films better then you do. As it stands it's a gigantic hit. It doesn't need your support the majority love it.

reply

Was Paul actually able to see the future?

reply

We are talking about Chani not Paul.

reply

Seems like it is really good, will try and see it.
