It's Over.

It has become clear that Ti West and Mia Goth were just lightning in a bottle in 2022.

It's been fun. Time to move on.

Ouch son! It didn't live up to your expectations? I'll check it out when it's on digital (I no longer go to theatres).

Calling it now. 9-10/10 masterpiece.

This will go down as the best horror trilogy of all time. Either get on board or get ran over.

It was good I guess, but not amazing like the previous movies.

Those other two were written back to back and it seems like there was more of a plan to them. This could have been something but has so many ideas its hard to tell what the hell it wanted to be

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -https://youtu.be/Ec24OEq1gmo

Let me tell you something about Ti West and how he operates. He is not a planner. He's an aesthetics and vibes first, and over all, kind of dude. He likes period pieces and cultivating a time period, but not as far back as Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman), more recent history.

The House of the Devil encapsulates his method well. It's shot like a 1970s movie, it has a creepy atmosphere but truth be told the screenplay is undercooked. It's a look and feel type of movie with a very minimalist story.

He wrote X. It wears it's inspirations on it's sleeve. The Texas Pornstar Massacre. Once more we are in the 1970s, this time though he had a novel idea to make it edgy with it's porno under current. People lapped it up.

X was made during COVID lockdowns, per West they were stranded in New Zealand and were enjoying relative freedom whilst most of the world was locked inside their homes. He came up with the idea of shooting another movie back-to-back whilst they were there. He wanted to make Pearl a black-and-white 4:3 aspect ratio movie, inspired by silent cinema of the 1920s. A24 told him to fuck off so he said how about I make a technicolor inspired movie, invoking the 40s/50s? They said go ahead buddy. So he and Mia Goth wrote a back story for Pearl and got to work. That's the planning that went into Pearl. They just pulled the movie out of their asses whilst chilling in New Zealand.

Now I like Pearl, don't get me wrong, but that's the story behind it. There was no master plan. It came about by chance and was made on a whim.

I've yet to see MaXXXine but I hear it's a style over substance movie. That's Ti West in a nutshell. This time he makes a 80s De Palma style movie, so I've heard.

Very de palma , almost feels like an action crime movie than a slasher or horror, maybe thats what he was going for. Its alright . But yes the trilogy seems to have run its course .
Cool trilogy to sit back over a coupla nights and watch. Well done by the creators
