Getting dragged by the Letterboxd crowd.

These are the hipsters who adored X and Pearl. Damn, I'm surprised at the amount of poor reviews. A lot of the most popular reviews are negative!

Ti West you almost had me fooled there for a couple movies! I dunno what the fuck this dogshit is though. 1/10

Love how West reanimates the scuzzy streets of 80s LA. Love the multiple instances of goopy practical effects. Love Mia Goth (even if Maxine Minx is the least compelling character she’s played in the trilogy). But all of these are cosmetics masking a movie with a severe identity crisis and one that completely flounders in the third act. Puddle deep thematically, characters lack dimension, there’s no sense of cohesion— a baffling conclusion to what was a promising trilogy. 5/10

Kinda felt like one of those bits at the end of 22 jump street credits where they parody themselves. 5/10

I will not accept a third act I do not deserve. 5/10

As an ardent X and Pearl apologist, I think MaXXXine is everything X and Pearl haters accuse those movies of being. 3/10

not even that i’m really a huge fan of x and pearl, but like can we get ti west a dementia test or something? because i didn’t even think to consider it a possibility coming off the heels of those two films that the plot could be this completely, utterly lost. genuinely one of the most baffling excuses of a movie, nonetheless presumably (and at this point hopefully) the conclusion to a horror trilogy, i’ve seen in a very long time 4/10

Instead of a moment of triumph as we watch a star form and light up the night sky, MaXXXine presents more like a star dying, collapsing in on itself and extinguishing any dazzling light that once shone through the dark. As T.S. Eliot wrote, This is the way the [trilogy] ends, not with a bang but a whimper.

Pearl >>> X > MaXXXine 4/10

this sucks i was so hyped for this. i was expecting more scream less this 4/10

MaXXXine is a lackluster close to what was a creative horror trilogy. Some brief bursts of fun trapped in an uninspired mystery masked by an 80s aesthetic on autopilot. Mia Goth is solid even if what she's given comes nowhere near the first two films. A half-baked disappointment. 4/10

This was such a useless mess with nothing interesting to say I’m actually stunned? Big fan of X, thought PEARL didn’t really work, but this is a whole other level. It’s all so broad and stupid, especially the Hollywood Satire stuff. Why are there dumb cops and why am I watching a shootout?! Unfocused! 3/10

Please I‘m 1 Star 2/10

Pretty disappointed ngl. 5/10

This was a bit of a let down 5/10

The letterboxd crowd with over exaggerate. It's certainly not a 1/10. All the influences and style points alone make it a great homage to the 80's, just as a story it doesn't work and it is the biggest disappointment (due to how anticipated I was for it) of the summer so far for me.

If anyone's interested, I reviewed the movie on my youtube channel. Appreciate any feedback. Trying to improve -https://youtu.be/Ec24OEq1gmo
