I can't stand it. This series is stupid, though I love the leading actors/actress.
They have to drag one murder case throughout 8 episodes. It's obvious that the creator wants more $$$ but lacks of good material.
Kinda similar with The Walking Dead, the Talking Dead, Fear Of the walking dead, Batman vs Superman, The Avengers, etc.
These greedy people who have run out of their creativity, but still needs to make $$$, so they do this.
I agree with you. They had good actors but terrible writers.

Perhaps you would get more enjoyment from a traditional mystery show like "Murder, She Wrote", or "Matlock", in which a different murder is solved every episode.
You may have been expecting a pure murder mystery show, but this is something a little different. The show also looks at the lives and reactions of the people in the close-knit community as well as how all of this interacts with mass media.
