No Kevin Conroy?

Forget all those other guys. Without Kevin Conroy, this "Batman" cannot reach its' proper heights of awesomeness. 'Nuff said!

Kevin Conroy is to so many; "Thee Batman" period. but even i have to agree that, if he starred in too many DTV movies, the films would lose their appeal. Sometimes a voice change-up hear and there is a necessary thing to do from a creative standpoint!

A long time ago Kevin Conroy got the role voicing Batman for the 92 Batman TAS series. Its only over time inwhich he became so inbuilt to the Batman pop culture itself, and while his life must surely be financially successful i'm sure even he sees the need for different voice actors to come in and voice Batman as well and add their own flavor to a certain style and direction of a DC DTV animated movie involving Batman.

Kevin Conroy is no doubt Batman to me and so many other fans, but that doesn't mean other actors or voice artists can't touch the same character though! Change ups from what your so use to are necessary and very much needed sometimes to show a level of dichotomy and creative ideas to pus the envelope for different Warner animated movie projects!

Keep an open mind folks!

Casting anyone other than Kevin Konroy as Batman is like casting someone other than Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones... it is just bogus...

Konroy is just so damn good playing Batman he's ruined it for everyone that follows him...

Ford did the same for Indiana Jones

reply

Why would having Conroy as Batman get old? What's unappealing about him as Batman? I hear this Used as an excuse and just get it.

If Sean Connery could have been Bond forever it wouldn't bother me.

As that other guy said....Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones.

William Shatner will always be Capt Kirk.

Conroy is the Batman.

People's voices don't change. Why should Batmans?

DC has done made some really weird/bad casting choices lately.. Does anyone think Baldwins Batman was good?

DiMaggio as the Joker sounds like Bender doing a Joker impression to me. It wasn't terrible but it certainly wasn't great either.

They aren't going to find anyone better than Conroy or Hammil so as far as I'm concerned those two are Batman and Joker for life. I can't imagine why anyone would get tired of them, as long as the story is good I'm set. Those two bring Batman and Joker to life like no others.

Which Baldwin? What Batman animated film are you referring to?

How about they just cast him as Batman in every animated movie and video game, and than dub him over Christian Bale, and than plant a f-cking chip in everyone's brain so you can hear his voice when you read the comics.

Sweet f-cking Christ I'm sick of hearing about Kevin Conroy.

Now you don't talk so loud. Now you don't seem so proud.

In spite of your obvious sarcasm, this idea sounds FANTASTIC to me. Especially considering I could barely understand Christian Bale whenever he started making those guttural noises. Those movies would have been much better with Kevin Conroy's voice.

You really think they're gonna waste another couple million dollars on an already expensive film re-dubbing an Oscar winner just to appease the loud minority of fans who don't like Bale? That's one dream that's never gonna come true.

Look I like Kevin Conroy's Batman as much as the next guy but he can't voice Batman in EVERYTHING. Other actors out there are perfectly capable of playing Batman and like super-turbo said it's good to have a switch up every now and then, keeps things fresh.

reply

I'm pretty sure it's a pretty wide held opinion by way more than just TAS fans that Bale's rendition of the Batman voice is pretty silly. It's so over the top that it comes across as funny rather than menacing.

"HHAAHM NOT WEARHHING HHHOCKEY PADS!"

And this parody rings pretty true:

And I'm pretty sure it's internet trolls blowing things out of proportion, as usual.

reply

How many internet trolls does it take before its a legitimate issue? Cuz there seems to be plenty of people who think the voice was over the top. All I know for certain is that I think it was overdone, as do all my friends. I don't actually know anyone personally that thinks the voice was great and couldn't have been done better. Taking those personal statistics to be in line with what many "internet trolls" have said paints a picture of dissatisfaction.

reply

most of my friends were too busy enjoying the movies to give a crap about Bales take on the bats voice (personally I thought it was great). He is a different batman, he has his own voice - don't watch the movies if all you want is boring old conroy (what's so damn great about his voice anyway? I don't get it)

reply

Fair points at first, but you really can't see why Conroy's voice is held in such regard? He does an amazing job, his voice has prescence and authority and strength, but also he just sounds so damn righteous and heroic. I find it very difficult to believe you can't see why he's praised.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, Darling!

reply

Amen to that. I think he sounds awesome in the JL original animated movies but I don't understand how anybody could say that Kevin Conroy is perfect for both Year One AND TDKR (to the people who need him voicing Batman every single time).

He was amazing, he was awesome and he still has a place voicing Batman. I just think it's time to let other people show what they can add (Bruce Greenwood was awesome and very appropriate, Peter Weller looks the same).

reply

look i don't have issue with others voicing batman, i just think this is one of if not the most popular batman story so my logic would be to use the guy most people most associate with batman

reply

Wasn't that thrilled with Bruce Greenwood's rendition in Under the Red Hood, but my real issue was with The Joker's voice in that movie. Seemed like a generic thug voice, not Hamill maniacal/insane, not Ledger psychotic/evil. Just came off as very hum drum generic to me.

I think I like Weller better than Greenwood in this movie, but still think Conroy would have been better in both by far. And he definitely pulled off old age Wayne in Batman Beyond, so he woulda been just fine in this too.

reply

I actually have that chip in my brain and it works amazingly i now hear the true BATMAN when anyone talks my world is complete

if u cant sleep someone is dreaming you're awake

reply

other than that last sentence... I endorse everything you just said....

reply

Oh man, what I wouldn't give to have Conroy dub over Bale...

reply

I would have preferred someone other Peter Weller voicing Batman. If I had my choice I would pick KC almost everytime. And KC definitely can voiced an older Batman as he did in the Batman Beyond series. Next choices would be Bruce Greenwood then Rino Ramano. Not Peter Weller. He should have waited for a Robocop animated series or something.

No more debate. First I kill you then everyone else.

reply

I liked the job Bruce Greenwood did in "Red Hood" and "Young Justice", but then I re-watch those old "B:TAS" episodes and man...I can't help it. I want my Kevin Conroy back!!! :D

reply

As much as I like Conroy, maybe its time to give someone else a chance? I mean look at Peter Cullen, voice of Optimus Prime...did the vice since forever, and only lately has other people voicing the iconic character in newer tv shows. Probably the same with Batman now. No one is getting younger, but I do agree Kevin Conroy will be missed this time.

reply

"As much as I like Conroy, maybe its time to give someone else a chance?"

It is not like Kevin Conroy has been the only person voicing Batman for the last twenty years. There have been Rino Romano, Diedrich Bader, Jeremy Sisto, Bruce Greenwood and William Baldwin. I've probably missed one or two.

After Batman Beyond, Conroy seems especially well-suited for The Dark Knight Returns. Still, I think that Peter Weller will do fine.

reply

Michael Ironside was pretty good in the short clip of TDKR.

reply

Before seeing the movie, I thought for sure they were going to go with Ironside for the voice of Wayne/Batman, like they did in the short from "...The Animated Series". I was kinda bummed out when I saw it was Peter Weller.

As a child, I grew up listening to Olan Soule's Batman way before Kevin Conroy came along, and I think both those guys embodied Batman in their own ways. I just can't see Conroy's voice fitting with Frank Miller's Dark Knight.

reply

Yes, to me Conroy IS Batman and no one can do the character better than him. I think he could have pulled off the role in this movie since he already played an aged Batman/Bruce Wayne on Batman Beyond.

Still, I think Weller did a good job. Only he, Dietrich Bader, and Bruce Greenwood have done a good job as Batman. I didn't care for Jeremy Sisto, William Baldwin, or Ben McKenzie.

And this is an interesting item:

Given this is a much older Bruce Wayne, I think a change is actually necessary for the character.

Oh, please! Bruce was older than this in Batman Beyond.

reply

Normally, I am with you. Kevin Conroy or GTFO.

however, Robocop does a GREAT job in this movie. PERFECT voice for this role, deep, menacing, a little older, but with real emotion and heft.

reply

That TDK Returns wouldn't feel right with Conroy voicing it. Imagine the Batman of your childhood shooting a Mutant, taunting victims, and breaking the Joker's neck.

Conroy is best at demonstrating the heroism and authority of Batman. I think he would do great in the role, but I honestly think Returns should have its own voice actor, because it is so much darker than Batman usually is.

I think Conroy works best at "normal" Batman, not psycho-brutal Batman.

reply

I concur with this. I'd say Peter Weller is on par with Kevin Conroy. That's how much I liked the voice.

reply

This is not Batman the Animated series so they need a new voice to not connect it so to not confuse the audience. Also I like this voice. Good for Batman in his 50s or 60s.

reply

No. I don't know if anyone actually followed the original TAS series but I wanted to see Michael Ironside as old Bruce/batman.

Even though I lean towards KC since he was the OLD Wayne in BB...but for some reason I just loved Michael's voice when he played the old batman in the TAS.

reply

They didnt really change him much in batman beyond but I think conroy is a good enough voice actor he would have added voice nuance to an older "returns" style batman performance.

I found weller a bit to dry and monotone.

At least they didnt get bale to do it. Picture the mud pit operating room line with his lispy cancer throat screeching *shudder*
